In case you haven't noticed, video is all the rage. People are sending and receiving messages in segments, ranging from a few seconds to a few minutes. Just look at the explosion of TikTok.
We have cameras on our phones and cameras on our computers and that affords us the chance to use it as a selling tool.
However, you need to know what you are doing.
I thought I would take a second and share with you how I make these videos so that if you decided to create some kind of marketing piece or case study or success story, you could put something together and make it an asset to your selling efforts.
Here's a little trick I learned from a woman who was presenting at drupa, the largest print show in the world held every four years in Germany…
- Script out what you want to say. Spend some time on this and get it right. And don't forget about my lesson from last week: Keep it brief.
- Read the text into some kind of a recording device or a computer app. I use GarageBand, for example.
- Set up your surroundings. Make certain you have a pleasant but not distracting background. Invest in some decent lighting. And use the highest quality camera you can. I use the camera on my iPhone 14.
- Run a wire from whatever recording device you used up your back and in one of your ears. What you're going to do is play the recording and then speak whatever words you hear. It takes a little getting used to, but the result is a perfect audio track. Don't believe me? Well, you're actually witnessing one right now.
This is a great time of year to create marketing materials. They can be one offs, or, like mine, content that gets released weekly. Video will help you build a brand. Video will help customers put a face to the name. It might be difficult at first, but keep trying and you’ll get the hang of it.
