This past Saturday, Allison and I went to a local farm and bought some corn. Nothing like local fresh, right?
Well, while were there, we looked at their other offerings. There at the farm stand was a strawberry. From afar, it was just like any other strawberry.
But, up close …
Oh man …
This strawberry was a color I have not seen for years. It was a red beyond red. And the taste? Oh! The taste was, well, heavenly. But here’s the problem …
Now, I cannot have anything less. This strawberry ruined other strawberries for me!
Have you witnessed customer service like no other? Have you been blown away by the way Apple gracefully handled your stupid mistake? Were you floored by Nordstrom when they accepted something for return you didn’t even buy there? What was your reaction? What did you think after you saw it done right?
What about sales? Have you been helped by someone who listened to you, asked questions, and helped you find the perfect solution?
Have you heard a preacher deliver a message that hit your heart and soul?
Have you sat with someone at a noisy party who made you feel like you were the only one there?
There are examples of how it should be done all around you. That genuine smile from the girl at Starbucks. The time you got a baker’s dozen donuts without asking.
Or the time you picked up a strawberry with the color strawberries should be and thought, I cannot accept anything less?
Gang, the bar for how to handle yourself, how to listen, how to respond, and how to sell are all around you. And once you witness it, you should accept nothing less from yourself.
Pay attention.
Learn from others.
Emulate the best.
And then, be that example.
