Shanghai Package Printer Invests in a Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105-10-P3+LYYL
HEIDELBERG, GERMANY—March 8, 2012—Shanghai Tobacco Package Printing Co. (Shanghai Tobacco) recently signed a contract with Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) in China for the purchase of the longest offset press in the Chinese market—a Speedmaster 10-color press with perfecting device, two coating units and two drying units.
The peak performance class press enables Shanghai Tobacco to meet even the most exacting of customer requirements. Shanghai Tobacco aims to upgrade its print shop to be more flexible. The packaging printer expects to increase productivity in UV and double-coating printing by up to 30 percent.
The dedicated Heidelberg customer is already equipped with six multi-color Heidelberg presses: The world's first UV-capable, eight-color Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 with inline coating installed at the customer's site in 2006 is in use alongside Heidelberg CD 102 offset presses.
Shanghai Tobacco anticipates the installation planned for September 2012 with high expectations towards the press.
Peak Performance Class - The pioneering performance class for a discerning market
The Peak Performance Class satisfies the most stringent demands in terms of both quality and productivity. From feeder to delivery, the Speedmaster XL 105 is bristling with innovations. Shanghai Tobacco is looking for solutions that set them apart from their competitors and enable them to provide their customers with an extended range of services. With the new 14-unit press, the company, which is mainly producing cigarette packages, will be able to print the interior as well as the exterior of its products. The tobacco warning messages that appear on the packaging of cigarettes and other tobacco products concerning the health effects of those products are printed in at least four colors. With the additional spot colors, Shanghai Tobacco can meet all customer requirements beyond the ordinary.
The UV equipped Speedmaster XL 105 offers a wide range of advantages
UV printing offers a wide range of advantages - premium gloss effects, unusual printing stocks such as laminated materials, films, or metallic surfaces, and fast postpress. This means an ordinary print product can be turned into a top-quality experience - and that is exactly what the market is calling for. Printers today are looking for solutions that set them apart from their competitors and enable them to provide their customers with an extended range of services.
The new DryStar, designed for the sheet travel of the Speedmaster XL 105 UV, has been selected as the UV dryer. The dryers are fully integrated into both the printing unit and delivery. The interdeck dryers can be moved freely from printing unit to printing unit without the need for tools, thus implementing "plug and print" and achieving maximum flexibility.
A variety of finishing options with the double-coating press
The double coating (LYYL) configuration can process conventional inks and give them a UV coating inline once a primer has been applied. A range of combinations are possible such as primers with metallic coatings, Iriodin, or functional coatings.
Both coating units boast extremely high register accuracy for delivering unique finishing quality. The new combination clamping bar enables use of both coating blankets and coating plates, thus offering maximum flexibility. The infrared and hot-air DryStar dryer is used in the drying units of the double-coating presses.
