Longtime Philly Print Shops Merge

PHILADELPHIA—A pair of longtime printers in the City of Brotherly Love have joined forces. Smith-Edwards-Dunlap Co. (SED), which was established in 1880, and Graphic Arts Inc., which dates back to 1928, have merged. Each company will continue to do business under its present name. However, operations will be combined into the 120,000-square-foot SED facility.

Both firms are owned by third-generation family members: the Lobel family (SED) and the Koontz and Binder families (Graphic Arts). Each company also boasts an average tenure of 20 years per employee.

"The synergies of this combination of talent and equipment will result in a winning equation 
of 1+1=3," according to Jonathan Shapiro, president of SED.

A sheetfed, web and digital printing firm, SED offers bindery, mailing and packaging operations, and typesetting and proofreading services. Graphic Arts, a National Women's Business Enterprise and FSC-
certified firm, has experience meeting the demands of pharmaceutical printing, extensive HIPAA knowledge and capability, as well as inventory and fulfillment capacity.

Fred Binder, VP of Graphic Arts, adds, "We're extremely excited about the collective value we can bring to our customer base."
