St. Ives Has Growth Plans
CLEVELAND—St. Ives/ Perlmuter Printing, having completed its name change to St. Ives, has broken ground on a $12 million expansion project. The expansion provides for 20 percent more space and will house a new web press and a state-of-the-art stitcher.
Purchased three years ago by London-based St. Ives plc, Perlmuter officials say they were sensitive to changing their name in the local market. Established in 1917, the Perlmuter family provided a long legacy of printing services to customers in the Cleveland area, and nationally as well.
"We are pleased to introduce the St. Ives organization to the Cleveland market," says Wayne R. Angstrom, president and CEO of St. Ives, U.S. Division. "We strive on delivering the highest quality multicolor web offset printing along with the best customer service in the business. The only difference our customers will experience is an effort to increase our already high level of service."
According to Gary Davis, general manager of the company's Cleveland division, the company's growth in recent years led to the decision to expand the facility.
The ground breaking of the 53,000-square-foot, single story addition will add to the existing 260,000-square-foot campus in Cuyahoga Heights.
Upon completion, immediate plans call for the addition of 40 new jobs and as many as 80 as equipment is added in the next three to five years. The project is expected to be completed early in 2000.
New equipment purchased as part of the expansion project includes a state-of-the-art Muller Martini Prima stitcher providing video-jet/ink-jet capabilities for direct-mail personalization, a high-speed six-unit Heidelberg web press that officials say operates at 55 percent higher efficiency than the prior model, and GMI closed loop color technology enabling increased color control on long runs.
The firm is also documenting its processes and procedures in an effort to achieve ISO 9000 registration later this year.
St. Ives Cleveland, part of St. Ives' U.S. Division, is Ohio's largest printer, specializing in catalogs and direct mail. It employs 500. Its parent company, St. Ives plc, is the largest printing organization in London and has business units in England, Wales, Germany, Holland and the United States.
