ANDOVER, MA—October 20, 2008—Standard Finishing Systems will show a comprehensive portfolio of Standard Hunkeler unwinding, cutting, stacking and rewinding solutions in partnership with leading continuous-feed digital print suppliers – including InfoPrint Solutions Company, Kodak, Océ, Screen and Xerox – throughout the hall at Graph Expo. These various solutions are tailored to meet the application requirements of the commercial print, print on demand, book publishing, transactional printing, and direct mail industries.
Under the banner “Huncolor-ready,” Standard will also emphasize Hunkeler’s expertise and commitment to serve the fast-growing continuous-feed ink-jet and digital color markets with solutions specifically designed for full-bleed trimming and extra-sensitive paper handling, to avoid any propensity for marking. As continuous-feed digital color imaging ramps-up to even higher speeds, “Huncolor-ready” paper handling will deliver the transpromotional, direct mail and publishing end-products customers want.
Standard Finishing Systems – Booth 2246 / Direct Mail – Roll-to-self Mailer; Book Publishing – Roll-to-offset stack with near-line binding
The new Standard Hunkeler CS6-II Rotary Cutter with Chip-Out will be shown as part of a roll-to-stack combination line producing full-bleed trimmed color self mailers and full-color, sample educational textbooks. The new Standard Hunkeler UW6 unwinder and high performance CS6-II cutter will double-cut sheets from rolls pre-printed on the Screen TruePress Jet520 full color variable printing system. The cut sheets will be folded into direct mailers on the in-line Standard Horizon AFC-566 automated signature folder, or presented on the non-stop stacker as cleanly offset and separated book blocks for near-line perfect binding on the Standard Horizon BQ-470. The newest Standard Hunkeler Gen6 solutions handle paper from 40 to 300 gsm with ease, and can be operated either in-line with digital printers or off-line.
With speeds up to 600 fpm, two independent dynamically-controlled rotary cutters, and variable chip-out between 1/8" and 2-3/4", the CS6-II is ideally suited for demanding direct mail, publishing and other applications that require full-bleed trim or chip-out of a cross-web perforation. Setups and adjustments are easily performed at the touch screen control console, with the ability to memorize recurring jobs for operator convenience. Changes in cut length can also be carried out based on UP3I or barcode information.

The straight and fully-separated book blocks will be presented in perfect alignment for easy transfer to the near-line Standard Horizon BQ-270 automated off-line perfect binder and three-sided trimming on the HT-30 automated off-line trimmer. Demonstrating the quick set-up, changeover and versatility of this solution, a second application will deliver cut sheets to an in-line stitcher.
