Standard Hunkeler to Unveil New Paper Handling Solutions at drupa
ANDOVER, MA—March 28, 2012—Hunkeler AG, a world leader in high-performance paper handling systems, will show a comprehensive portfolio of unwinding, rewinding, cutting, stacking, perforating, punching and folding solutions throughout the halls at drupa 2012 in Düsseldorf, Germany—including many world premiers.
Twenty Hunkeler lines consisting of over 85 modules will be shown in 14 different industry-leading digital print, finishing, and mail inserting partner booths. This large sampling of solutions will show the diversity of the Hunkeler line, and how the systems are tailored to meet the application requirements of the commercial print, book publishing, data center, transpromotional, financial print and direct mail markets.
Partnerships Take Center Stage
Designed to work with high-speed digital printers at up to 720 feet/minute, with superior paper handling performance on a wide range of substrates, “huncolor ready” feeding and finishing solutions will be shown with several industry leading printer vendors including Canon, HP, Impika, Kodak, Océ, Ricoh, Screen, Xeikon, and Xerox. Hunkeler will also demonstrate best-in-class leadership in the high speed mail inserting space, together with technology leaders Pitney Bowes and Matthias Bäuerle.
Hunkeler unwinding and cutting equipment will also be shown in the Horizon booth on three different finishing lines – a roll-to-saddlestitch line producing brochures and two roll-to-fold lines producing a direct mail piece and signatures for perfect binding. Horizon is a leading post press equipment manufacturer, and these solutions are the result of close technical cooperation between the two companies. Standard represents both Hunkeler and Horizon exclusively in North America.
“The combination of renowned Hunkeler and Horizon engineering, from one trusted supplier, brings new levels of integration and performance to every high-speed continuous-feed production print platform” said David Reny, Executive Vice President, Standard Finishing Systems. “Customers are looking for highly-reliable in-line feeding and finishing to help eliminate manual touch-points and off-line steps. These performance-built solutions are designed to meet those challenges.”
Several World Premieres at drupa
Hunkeler will introduce several products in their own booth at drupa—including the SD7 Starwheel Stacker with glue dots, which will be part of a live demonstration of a complete bookbinding workflow that begins with pre-printed digital rolls up to 30˝ wide. The Standard Hunkeler PF7 Double Plow-fold Module applies one or two folds in the web direction as needed before the CS6 cutter converts the multiple-up imposition into book blocks, which are then glued and stacked as four-, six- or eight-page signatures on the new SD7 Starwheel Stacker.
From there, the glued book blocks are transferred to a near-line perfect binder for book finishing. The signature book block solution is capable of running at speeds up to 653 feet per minute, and 450 output cycles per hour (multiple books per cycle), for off-line or in-line production.
In another world premier the DP6-A Dynamic Perforator will be part of a roll-to-fanfold solution for transactional and transpromotional applications, which also includes the FS6 Fanfolder and the PP6 Punch and Perforator – which can add static tractor holes, fanfold perforations, and file holes. The DP6-A is capable of unique and dynamic file hole punching and perforating patterns from sheet to sheet due to its individually driven hydraulic cylinders.
In a technology demonstration, the new HL6 laser engraving system for security punching and perforating will be shown for the first time as part of a solution that is ideal for check, transpromotional, and direct mail applications. The unique HL6 is capable of fully dynamic 2-up laser engraving with dual laser heads for complex punching or perforating patterns at speeds up to 492 feet per minute. The WI6 Web Inspection System will also be in-line with this solution, capturing high resolution images of the full web width for in-line verification and integrity analysis.
The PC7 Primer/Coater and LS7 Large Format Stacker will also debut as part of a line that also includes the 30˝” Wide CS7 Cutter. This solution will be coating, cutting and stacking pre-printed posters. The PC7 fulfills two functions: primer application (pre-coating) on paper prior to the printing process or finishing (post-coating) on printed paper webs.
At drupa, the PC7 will be coating posters for scuff resistance. The PC7 enables the use of ordinary offset papers on inkjet printing systems—translating into high paper and storage cost savings. Cut sheets up to 43x30˝ can be stacked up to 31˝” high in the LS7 large format stacker.
