Donnelley Closures in IN, IA, to Cost Nearly 400 Jobs
CHICAGO—The RR Donnelley printing empire is taking a hit with a pair of closure notifications at plants in South Bend, IN, and Eldrige, IA, which will ultimately lead to roughly 386 lost jobs.
The Eldridge, IA, plant will go dark on July 31, leaving 279 employees out of work, according to the Quad-City Times. The facility, initially Bawden Printing, was acquired as part of the Von Hoffmann deal in 2007. Donnelley is the largest employer in Eldridge, the paper said.
The South Bend Tribune reported that Donnelley sent a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice to the state of Indiana regarding the closure of the former Bowne & Co. plant. That facility, which employs 107, will commence shutting down on July 24, a process that is expected to take about two weeks. Donnelley acquired Bowne last November.
