Sun Chemical Presents Environmentally Sustainable Products, UV System Solution in ‘Club Oasis’
CHICAGO—August 21, 2007—At Graph Expo 2007, Sun Chemical will showcase innovative solutions that can drive bigger profits while improving environmental performance at “Club Oasis,” an informal setting at booth 2819 in which guests can talk with Sun Chemical professionals away from the chaos of the show floor.
Sun Chemical Club Oasis visitors will see new products and solutions that demonstrate Sun Chemical’s commitment to environmental sustainability, through the development of solutions that meet end-users’ stringent VOC requirements, lower energy use and waste reduction. These high-performance products include inks, coatings and chemistries that help to turn commercial printing, publications, packaging, and screen printing companies into more environmentally conscious, sustainable operations.
“Customers want ink and chemistry solutions that can make their operations run more efficiently while improving quality. They also need products that make it easy for them to address their environmental performance without driving up their costs or complicating their businesses. Sun Chemical is delivering,” said Brad Schrader, chief marketing officer, Sun Chemical. “Sun Chemical’s global R&D operation is an engine of innovation that is creating solutions with lower emissions, faster drying times, and characteristics that lead to significantly less waste and less clean up.”
In addition to seeing exciting new products presented in a comfortable setting, visitors can enjoy a complementary beverage and register to win a pair of Sennheiser noise reduction headphones.
Synergy™ UV System Solution Speeds Make-Ready, Reduces Waste
Club Oasis visitors will be the first to see Sun Chemical’s just-introduced Synergy™ products, the first product offering that combines new UV ink, coating, press conditioner, wash and fountain solution chemistries formulated to simplify UV printing. Synergy is the only “system solution” designed for UV printing applications, with specially formulated products that speed make-ready, simplify ink and water balance settings and reduce start-up waste.
“Synergy inks offer a number of advantages, including excellent lithographic performance at high speeds,” said Jim Bishop, UV product manager. “The high-gloss series does not require UV coating, while the plastic series offers unmatched adhesion on a wide variety of plastics for display and card applications.”
Synergy plastic inks allow printers to set up jobs using paper, which simplifies make-ready and helps reduce the high start-up costs associated with plastic printing.
Rycoline® Green Pressroom Specialty Chemicals
Club Oasis will provide visitors with the opportunity to see the Rycoline® portfolio of green products: pressroom supplies and specialty chemicals designed to reduce VOCs in the commercial printing process. Created to meet the highest standards for print quality and on-press performance while providing the lowest impact on the environment, Rycoline’s Green Diamond Universal Fount eliminates the need for a 100 percent VOC alcohol replacement in the printing process, reducing VOCs by about three tons annually in an average sheetfed pressroom.
The Rycoline line of blanket and roller wash products come in reusable containers, eliminating the need to dispose of dozens of metal drums used by competitive products, and their effective cleaning properties reduce VOCs by as much as six tons annually in a typical printing operation. Visitors also will learn about Rycoline Diamond Coat aqueous coatings, available in 275-gallon reusable totes that eliminate the disposal of nearly 200 fiber drums each year.
“Rycoline products not only reduce the VOC emissions in an average print house by many tons annually, but they also reduce the costs associated with drum disposal,” Mark DeSandre, vice president, market development, Rycoline noted. “Using Rycoline products, commercial printers can comply with their customers’ demands for green operations while saving money in the process.”
Streamline™ S-Tech Digital Bulk Ink Feed System
In addition, visitors to Club Oasis will be the first to see Streamline™ S-Tech, Sun Chemical’s new digital bulk ink feed system for Mimaki JV3 series presses—an easy to use, cost saving system for continuous printing applications. Mimaki JV3 presses are used by approximately 8,000 commercial printing operations in Europe.
S-Tech is an ancillary system that gives Mimaki JV3 users the freedom to adopt Sun Chemical Screen’s range of Streamline solvent digital inks, realizing the cost savings of using a value-for-money bulk ink product. The system can be fitted and installed by a press operator with no modifications to either the hardware or software in the press. S-Tech uses a sensor to ensure a constant level of ink delivery, carefully controlling the ink reservoir levels to give consistent ink pressure on the print heads.
Sun Chemical Club Oasis will also feature Kohl & Madden Liberty™ sheetfed inks, an environmentally friendly ink technology designed to produce outstanding print while reducing waste and dramatically shortening printers’ production times. Liberty utilizes proprietary chemistry to create inks that offer superb press stability and ultra-fast drying, which together can yield substantial savings for printers.
