Sun Chemical’s O'Boyle Honored with 2015 NAPIM Pioneer Award
PARSIPPANY, NJ—March 26, 2015—Sun Chemical’s Robert O’Boyle has received the 2015 National Association of Print Ink Manufacturers (NAPIM) Pioneer Award.
One of the most distinguished awards in the ink manufacturing industry, the Pioneer Award honors those who have given at least 25 years of service to the printing ink industry through their work with one or several printing ink companies or suppliers, in addition to service work with ink associations, production clubs and other committees. NAPIM also considers technical contributions in the areas of laboratory, engineering, production or product development.
Currently a product manager of coatings at Sun Chemical, O’Boyle has held a variety of technical and management positions in the industry for over 35 years. His management in research and development has led to many innovative water- and solvent-based inks for food and non-food packaging. He has also been instrumental in developing and advancing nanoparticle technology.
O’Boyle managed a global technology exchange program for Sun Chemical which leveraged liquid ink technology from all continents, demonstrated leadership by investing in sophisticated instrumentation used to characterize ink and coatings in the 1990s, invested in the use of gas chromatography-olfactory and gas chromatography mass spectroscopy to monitor ink and to discriminate between conforming and non-conforming packaging, and has developed products that have advanced the science of printing inks and coatings.
A frequent speaker who shares his knowledge about barrier coatings, liquid inks and unique curing technologies at multiple events, including AIMCAL (Association of International Metallizers, Coaters and Laminators), PRINT 13, TAPPI (Technological Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry), and the FTA (Flexible Technical Association), O’Boyle is a member of several associations, including the FTA, TAPPI and the IoPP (Institute of Packaging Professionals).
“Bob has demonstrated exemplary leadership and made significant contributions to establish Sun Chemical as a technology leader in the markets that we serve,” commented Charles Murray, president, North American Inks, Sun Chemical. “He is an active participant and leader in professional organizations that serve to advance the graphic arts and packaging industries. We are pleased that NAPIM has recognized Bob with the Pioneer Award. He is a very worthy recipient.”
