Xerox Corp. has received the 2003 IEEE Corporate Innovation Recognition award for its work that created the DocuTech product line. The IEEE recognized Xerox "for its DocuTech product line, which unified digital electronics, computing and communications with xerography to create the print-on-demand industry," says Michael Adler, IEEE president.
X-Rite Inc. has acquired the assets of Monaco Systems, a Massachusetts-based company that develops and distributes color management software to the graphic arts and photo markets. This $10.6 million asset purchase, funded by a combination of cash and stock, (some of which is subject to certain vesting requirements), includes the entire Monaco line of color management products, all intellectual property and operating assets.
Enovation Graphic Systems announced the acquisition of graphic arts distributor London Litho Aluminum. Headquartered in Lincoln-wood, IL, London Litho also has branches in New Berlin and Neenah, WI; Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, IN; Grand Rapids and Detroit, MI; and New Brighton, MN.
Linda Welty has been named COO for Flint Ink, responsible for the company's ink manufacturing operations on a global basis. Welty comes from H.B. Fuller, of Saint Paul, MN, where she served as group president and general manager of H.B. Fuller's Full-Valu and Specialty Group.
Koenig & Bauer AG (KBA), the parent company of KBA North America, has announced that Albrecht Bolza-Schunemann has been named president of the company, replacing
Reinhart Siewert, who retired in June after eight years as president and nearly 25 years on the firm's board of directors. Claus Bolza-Schunemann, Albrecht's younger brother, has been named deputy president of the firm. In other news, the company has acquired Bauer+Kunzi, a manufacturer of metal decorating presses.
Presstek Inc. reports that Al Nimmo has joined the company as regional sales manager, on-press, for the Midwest region. Prior to joining Presstek, Nimmo was a regional sales manager at xpedx.
Komori America announced it is conducting a series of seminars at its Rolling Meadows, IL, facility that will provide information on tools available to enhance productivity in the pressroom. Topics in the "Komori Survivor Series" include computer-integrated manufacturing, color management and screening technologies.
John Courtic has been hired as Western regional sales manager for Arjobex America.
Océ has appointed Wendell Wilson as its first chief marketing officer for all Océ operations in North America. Wilson joined Océ in October 1999 as group vice president for Océ document printing systems.
Prime UV Systems celebrated 15 years of manufacturing UV curing and IR drying equipment in July.
Agfa has announced its seventh annual design contest for students aged 17 to 30. The theme of the contest is "The Power of Print." Contestants must create an A2 poster that expresses how print has influenced them and its audiences. Deadline for submissions is February 29, 2004. The six best designs will be printed on large-format printing presses at the Drupa trade show in Germany next May. They will also be displayed on the Agfa Website as of May 2004. Winners will also be invited to an all expense-paid trip to Belgium in May 2004.

Sun Chemical has opened a new ink manufacturing facility in the city of Marki, near Warsaw, Poland. Sun Chemical's expansion in Poland strengthens its position in the Eastern European market. In other news, Laura Cory has been named president of the company's digital business unit.
Bob Smith has been added to the outside sales staff of Roosevelt Paper. He works out of the Richwood, KY, plant servicing the states of North Carolina, South Carolina and most of Virginia.
Standard Duplicating Machines has launched a public service partnership with ProLiteracy Worldwide, and will serve as a corporate sponsor of the ProLiteracy Worldwide conference in November. ProLiteracy Worldwide is an adult volunteer literacy organization, based in Syracuse, NY.
PECAS Vision software supplier Radius Solutions has completed its acquisition of London-based Isys, the supplier of KEREN MIS business software solutions. As part of the agreement, Radius will acquire 40 European customers.
Rick Ciordia has joined Standard Finishing Systems as sales manager, Hunkeler Graphics, and now manages all sales activity for Hunkeler web finishing products. Ciordia previously was employed by Duplo Corp.

Tembec Paperboard Group has appointed Travis Lee as a new account manager, responsible for the Midwest market.
Jetrion expanded its customer service capabilities by introducing a nationwide, 24-hour, technical support program. This support program is made possible by a recent service agreement with DataJet Services, a print service/support organization based in Norcross, GA.
Creo Inc. and GMG Weihing, a developer and marketer of professional color management solutions in Germany, have entered into an agreement to develop new color management proofing solutions. The first product to be developed from this alliance is a co-branded front end to drive the new Creo Veris proofer. Field testing of the Veris proofer together with the GMG front end began in August.
Konica Minolta Holdings has been formed as a result of "the letter of intent for the management integration" signed in January by Konica Corp. and Minolta Co., and of a contract for the stock exchange signed by both companies in May. The combined company reports it will be working to reorganize its operations.
Joseph Funicelli, president and CEO of Unifoil Corp., Fairfield, NJ, recently celebrated his 25th anniversary with the company. He was honored at a private reception attended by company shareholders and employees. Among Funicelli's accomplishments are the development of the UniLustre, Holographic UniLustre and Registered Holographic UniLustre materials.
Chuck Britton has been named president of Bob Ray & Associates. Previous to his promotion, Britton served as plant manager of the machinery installation and press equipment remanufacturing company.
Cyril H.T. Woodward, president and CEO of Woodward Manufacturing, has sold the assets of the company to Joseph Giorgio, who has served as general manager for 30 years. The company is now known as Woodward Jogger Aerators.
Paul Clancy has been named vice president of business development, marketing and sales for Stora Enso North America. Clancy joined the company in 1986 and most recently served as vice president of business development in the division's Fine Paper group.
Colter & Peterson, a supplier and servicer of paper cutters, announced that it has purchased the paper cutter and paper drill assets of Dexter-Lawson Manufacturing. One of the oldest names in the paper cutter industry with over 100 years of operation, Dexter-Lawson closed its doors on June 24. Colter & Peterson will house the Lawson paper cutter parts inventory in its newly expanded Paterson, NJ, technical facility.
Scitex Digital Printing has appointed two directors in the Americas region of the sales organization. Skip (Harold) Henk is director of system solutions, and Richard (Dick) Nye is director of marketing. Both appointments were effective early in the second quarter.
Baldwin Technology has entered into a new $20 million revolving credit facility with Maple Bank GmbH, Frankfurt, Germany. This replaces a previous credit agreement the company and its subsidiaries had in place since 2000 with Fleet National Bank and Wachovia Bank.
Printcafe Software announced several initiatives to better serve its growing ranks of Hagen OA, Logic and PSI customers including increasing development and quality assurance staff by 11 staff members across all three product lines. Printcafe also announced the roll-out of a new Internet-based, customer SupportCenter to users of the PSI, PSI Flexo, Hagen OA and Logic SQL print management systems. The SupportCenter lets customers place and track service requests 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The International Association of Printing House Craftsmen (IAPHC) has honored Bob Gans, founder of Gans Ink and Supply, with the Craftsman of the Year Award. Kevin Keane, IAPHC president and CEO, presented the award at the IAPHC's annual convention.
Goss International announced the appointment of Merita Sheive as director of parts sales for the Goss Aftermarket team in the Americas. Based in Goss' Bolingbrook, IL, headquarters, she brings with her 20 years of experience in aftermarket and OEM activities, having formerly worked for Goss as manager of customer parts sales.
Prism USA, a supplier of integrated management information systems for the printing industry, reports that Donald Goldman has joined the company as a senior project manager.
Aellora Digital, a MARKEM company focused on digital chemistries and drop-on-demand ink-jet system integration products, has named Dr. Michael Stoudt acting COO; Dr. Richard Larson, chief technical officer, Aellora Digital Chemistries; Joe Parisi, chief technical officer, Aellora Digital Systems; Alan Boyer, manager of research and technology development; Ann Reitnauer, senior staff scientist; and Mario Carluccio, manager of marketing and business development.
