Landmark 500th CTP Device Installed
ROCHESTER, NY—Morris Communications has purchased a thermal CTP newspaper solution from Kodak for its flagship newspaper, The Augusta Chronicle. The transaction marks the 500th Kodak Trendsetter News thermal CTP platesetter device sold. The Kodak solution being installed at The Augusta Chronicle includes two Kodak Trendsetter News devices, NewsManager workflow software, a Prinergy Evo PDF processor and Staccato screening software.
Essex Products Group (EPG), a manufacturer of integrated color control systems, reports that Helga Kollegger has been named sales administrator. Kollegger is now the first contact for both current customers and sales inquiries.
Punch Graphix plc regrets to announce the death of Dick Tilanus, the company's CEO, as a result of complications following a routine operation. Until a successor is named, Jan Smits, CFO, will assume the role of acting CEO and will be assisted by Ken Humphreys, one of the company's non-executive directors.
KBA North America has equipped its Customer Demonstration Center in Williston, VT, with a DRAABE high-pressure air humidification system and a standardized process water system. The newly expanded, 8,000-square-foot demo center is equipped with a full prepress department and a wide array of KBA presses. Abitibi-Consolidated's Paper Retriever program is expanding into seven additional U.S. markets, including Baltimore, Boston, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Las Vegas, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The recycling program will now be in 23 metro areas in North America.
Subsequent to Drent Goebel's acquisition of web press manufacturer RDP Marathon last summer, the company announced that RDP Marathon will be known as Drent Goebel North America. Huib van den Heuvel, technical director for Drent Goebel, has relocated to Montreal and now serves as president of Drent Goebel North America. Eric Short, founder of RDP Marathon, is responsible for North American sales and marketing.
Mohawk Fine Papers was the recipient of the 2005 Green Power Leadership Award in the category of Green Power Purchasing. Hosted by the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, the annual award honors U.S. organizations that make significant purchases of renewable energy, thus helping to build the market for green power. Mohawk is said to be the only paper mill in the U.S. to use wind power to manufacture paper.
Kodak has announced a reseller agreement with Secap, a supplier of mail stream management solutions. Under terms of the agreement, Secap will resell the Kodak Versamark DS4350 UV printing system through selected factory-trained dealers to end user customers.
Presstek Inc. has appointed Betty LaBaugh to the position of public relations manager. LaBaugh has more than 25 years of experience in the graphic arts industry, including key marketing positions at Polaroid and Agfa.
Dainippon Ink & Chemicals (DIC), Sun Chemical's parent, has developed a strategy to integrate the management of DIC and Sun Chemical's operations and more closely coordinate their global management structure. As a result, Wes Lucas has resigned from his position as president and CEO of Sun Chemical, but will remain as chairman of the board. David Hill has been appointed as president and CEO of Sun Chemical. In addition, Naoki Tsuji and Kazuo Kudo have been elected to the Sun Chemical board.
