Award Winners Honored in China
SHANGHAI, CHINA—Jonathan Leslie, CEO of Sappi Limited, and Ronee Hagen, CEO of Sappi Fine Paper North America, presented Bob Coppinger of Kirkwood Printing, Wilmington, MA, with an International Printer of the Year award. Sappi Limited presented awards to nine printers out of 6,000 entries at a gala event held here recently to recognize excellence in print craftsmanship. The only winner from the U.S., Kirkwood Printing took top honors in the annual reports category.
Mitsubishi Lithographic Presses (MLP U.S.A.) has joined The Print Council, an industry coalition dedicated to building the market for print.
Jeff Pieper has been promoted to senior vice president and general manager for Day International's Chemical Products division. He has been with Varn International since 1986, which was acquired by Day in 1999. Also, Steve Skerl has been promoted to vice president and treasurer at Day.
Muller Martini has appointed Jay Bellanca to the position of regional sales manager for New York City, Long Island and the eastern portion of New York state. Also, Kenneth Hagan takes over as regional sales manager for northern California, northern Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska and Hawaii.
Dennis Curtin, president of The Print Suppliers Group (PSG), reports two new members have joined the nationwide buying co-operative of independent ink manufacturers and graphic arts distributors. Graphic Ink of Salt Lake City and American Printing Ink of Chattanooga, TN, bring the group to eight active members.
Goss International reports that David Stamp, director of global marketing, has left the company. Greg Norris has assumed responsibility for Goss International's trade media and public relations activities.
Dom Caputo has joined Kodak Graphic Communications Group's Transaction & Industrial Solutions (T&IS) business as vice president of sales, Americas region, with responsibility for sales and profitability of Kodak Versamark digital printing products in this region.
NPES The Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies has elected a new chairman and director. The new chairman is Thomas Saggiomo, president of Agfa Corp.'s Graphic Systems business in North America. He succeeds Kathryn Marx, vice president and chief marketing officer for Flint Ink, who will remain on the executive committee. Also elected as a new director on the board was Christopher Payne, director of product planning and strategy, Graphic Communications Group, Eastman Kodak. Re-elected as president was Regis J. Delmontagne, to a term expiring at the end of 2005. Elected as president to a term effective on January 1, 2006, was Ralph Nappi. Elected to serve as treasurer was John Hamm, vice president of marketing, Xerox Corp.
Enovation Graphic Systems has formed a partnership with Mutoh America and Seal Graphics to bring wide-format printing products to traditional offset printers.
MAN Roland has promoted George Fischer to the post of general manager of its Central region, a position responsible for all sales, service and support of sheetfed presses in the Midwest. Also, Ken Hamel is the new district sales manager for sheetfed systems in the East, covering New England and part of upstate New York.

KBA North America has named Walter Chmura Midwest regional vice president. Based in Chicago, he is now responsible for overseeing KBA's entire Midwestern U.S. sales team.
Thomas O'Connor Jr., chairman and CEO of Mohawk Fine Papers, has announced the following organizational changes and promotions: Walter Duignan, executive vice president and vice chairman, has been appointed to Mohawk's board of directors; Kevin Richard has been promoted to executive vice president, operations, and COO; Jack Haren, executive vice president, finance, and CFO, has been appointed to the Mohawk board of directors; and Laura Shore has been promoted to senior vice president, communications.
