Gämmerler Corp. announced record orders for the second quarter of fiscal year 2001, reporting a 34 percent increase in orders over the same period the previous year. The high order volume was attributed to a number of new orders placed at PRINT 01, including sales to R.R. Donnelley & Sons for four of its plants, as well as to Shuttle Printing and Suttle-Straus.
CM Acquisitions, a Chicago-based private equity firm, has agreed to acquire American Roller of Bannockburn, IL. The sale was effective as of December 28. Other terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Kodak Polychrome Graphics (KPG) is acquiring the business assets of Tech Services International (TSI), a provider of technical service and support. The new company, a wholly owned subsidiary of KPG, will be headquartered in Kennett Square, PA. In other KPG news, Barbara M. Cederberg has been appointed corporate vice president, strategy and development. Cederberg is the former president of the Imation Color Technologies business unit and a vice president and corporate officer of Imation Corp.
Spinks Ink has promoted Bruce Oliva to the position of general manager. Oliva formerly served as national accounts manager.
A.B.Dick will relocate press manufacturing to Rochester, NY, in early 2002. The move is being made to consolidate facilities and resources. After the move is complete, its Niles, IL, facility will be closed. Worldwide headquarters for A.B.Dick will remain in Niles. The move is expected to be complete by the end of March and will result in the reduction of up to 175 employees worldwide. In other company news, A.B.Dick and Signature Printing have reached an agreement for Signature to sell A.B.Dick equipment and supplies in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
Screen (USA) has hired Steven Scholl as its new Southern California regional sales manager. He is responsible for sales in the Los Angeles and San Diego markets, with his main focus concentrating on CTP equipment and workflow software.
Muller Martini USA has made several personnel moves. Al Katz has been named sales manager for the book binding division's hard cover market. James Kaeli joins Muller Martini as product manager for its bookbinding division. The company has decentralized its sales operations in the West, creating a Western regional sales group under the direction of Keith Murphy Jr. William King is the company's new Western regional sales manager.
Newly formed Enovation Graphic Systems made several personnel announcements. Michael E. Borne has been named director of business development. Phil Kane has been tapped as director of business development, electronic imaging. Also, Robert J. Kurelic is the new director of national account sales.
Danaher Corp. has signed a definitive agreement to purchase Marconi Data Systems for $400 million. The acquisition, expected to close before the end of the first quarter of 2002, remains subject to regulatory approval and other customary closing conditions.
IST America has completed the integration of its sheetfed business operations with the sheetfed division of Technotrans America. The partnership is located in the Technotrans facility in Corona, CA.
Pace Systems has appointed Tony Caudill as North American sales manager for the business management software company.
John Malfettone has been named executive vice president and CFO of MacDermid Inc. Malfettone comes to the company from General Electric, where he most recently served as managing director of GE Equity, the private equity arm of GE.

The newly formed Graphic Communication Institute (GrCI) at the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA, has appointed Steve Godin as its first director. Godin spent more than 30 years with Xerox Corp. prior to his move to Cal Poly, where he held a number of senior positions.
Ideal Cards, a national distributor of paper stocks and accessories, has moved its company headquarters from Brooklyn, NY, to Camp Hill, PA. The company's new 25,000-square-foot facility is located at 3617 Simpson Ferry Road and features a warehouse and six loading docks.
The 2002 Roland Zavanda Standards Award, "The Rollie," presented by the Committee for Graphic Arts Technologies Standards (CGATS), will be awarded to Martin Bailey, senior technical consultant at Global Graphics Software.
International Knife & Saw is expanding its Florence, SC, manufacturing facility. Machines and related equipment from its Cincinnati facility will be relocated over the first three quarters of the year.
Heidelberg USA and Steuer Printing Technology announced that Heidelberg has assumed the distributorship, including all service activities for the Steuer Foil-Jet product line. Under the agreement, Heidelberg units will be responsible for all marketing and sales in their respective territories, as well as hardware and software service, technical support and parts supply for the Foil-Jet series of hot-foil stamping and embossing presses.
Komori Corp. has announced the appointment of Stephan Carter as president and COO of Rolling Meadows, IL-based Komori America. Carter joined Komori in October 2001 as senior vice president of sales and marketing. He will continue to report to Hirosuke Yanagida, who assumes the new position of chairman and CEO. Before joining Komori, Carter held numerous positions in sales and manufacturing with R.R. Donnelley.
Indigo N.V. has reached an agreement with the Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS) of the Israeli Ministry of Industry and Commerce for the early repayment of royalties. Pursuant to the agreement, Indigo will pay the OCS approximately $15 million in 2002 in settlement of potential royalty obligations.
