At Graph Expo, Kodak Polychrome Graphics (KPG) donated a Kodak Approval NX digital color imaging system to the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).
David Hohman has been appointed vice president and general manager of Rycoline, a manufacturer of printing supplies based in Chicago. Rycoline was recently acquired by Sun Chemical. Hohman has been with Sun Chemical for 13 years, serving in operations management.
John Strottner has joined Akiyama International as regional sales manager. He will be based at the company's Cerritos, CA, headquarters.
Baldwin Technology announced that Mark Becker and Gerald Nathe were re-elected to the company's board of directors. Also, Takayuki Miyaoku was elected as a vice president of the company, responsible for Asian operations. The board of directors also re-elected the following executive officers: Gerald Nathe, chairman, president and CEO; Vijay Tharani, vice president, CFO and treasurer; Karl Puehringer, vice president; and Shaun Kilfoyle, vice president.
The 2004 Naomi Berber Memorial Award was presented to Barbara Pellow, chief marketing officer and vice president of Kodak's Graphic Communications Group. Established by the Society of Fellows of the Printing Industries of America/Graphic Arts Technical Foundation, the Berber Award recognizes the contributions of women to the printing and graphic arts industry.
MAN Roland is connecting printers who use its presses with local print buyers and specifiers through its "Printing for Creatives" seminar series that is being presented at Roland-equipped facilities throughout the U.S. and Canada. In recent months, half-day events have been conducted at Rapid Impressions in Broadview, IL; Dollco Printing in Ottawa, ON; AJ Images in Roselle, NJ; and Metropolitan Fine Printers in Vancouver, BC. As many as 180 attendees participated in each event. The seminars include training sessions by MAN Roland technical experts, a representative from the host printer, and a creative authority from NAK Marketing and Communications, MAN Roland's North American marketing agency.
Rena Systems, a national distributor of envelope imaging and mailroom automation products, has announced that the manufacturer of its product line, Rena GmbH, of Oberhaching, Germany, has been awarded ISO 9001 certification for the year 2004.
The Supplier Advisory Committee of Printing Industries of America and the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (PIA/GATF) has announced the election of Larry Kroll, Heidelberg USA, as chairman, and John Stewart, Hue Color Systems, as vice chairman.
Sappi Fine Paper North America has been independently certified to conform to the requirements of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) standard, and awarded use of the SFI Certified Participant label. The SFI certificate applies to Sappi operations in Maine, Minnesota and Michigan. The audit was conducted by the independent certification body of Bureau Veritas.
Mohawk Paper Mills has announced several organizational changes. John O'Connor recently assumed the newly created position of senior vice president, administration. In a related move, Mohawk has promoted Richard LaBonge to the position of senior director of sales.
