Anniversary Open House Draws Crowd
MAULBURG, GERMANY—Approximately 250 people recently attended the anniversary open house event, "40 years of Muller Martini Presses," in this town in southern Germany. Group Chairman Rudolf Müller, Group Divisional Manager Dr. Peter Merkli and Managing Director Dr. Jürgen Dillmann took the opportunity to thank all the guests for their long-standing relationship. Muller Martini then demonstrated two new variable-size web presses, the Alprinta and the Concepta.
Introduced at Drupa, Muller Martini's new variable-size printing insert maximizes the format flexibility of a standard Alprinta by simply exchanging the plate and blanket cylinders, while the cartridge is still installed in the press. Also presented was the new variable cutoff PS74 large sheeter delivery for use on the Alprinta.
BCC Software's flagship products, Mail Manager 2010 and Mail Manager 2010 LE, have earned Zone Analysis Program (ZAP) certification from the United States Postal Service (USPS). A new USPS standard, ZAP certification determines whether a presorting product complies with current USPS zone designations used in periodical mailings, and automatically assigns the correct zones using the most up-to-date zone data.
Rena Systems is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The company, based in Oaks, PA, markets its imaging systems and mailroom automation products through a nationwide network of more than 200 independent dealers.
KBA North America has certified Flint Ink ArrowStar KG for use on the company's 74 Karat, an offset printing press optimized for short- to medium-run, four-color print jobs. ArrowStar KG is a new four-color waterless ink system specially formulated for sheetfed offset printing applications.
Superior Printing Ink held a groundbreaking ceremony recently for a new varnish manufacturing plant to be added to its central manufacturing facility in Hamden, CT. Slated to be operational by next summer, the new 12,000-square-foot varnish plant will allow Superior Printing Ink to increase its level of automation in the manufacture of lithographic printing ink.
NPES The Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies elected three new directors at its annual conference in October. The new directors, elected to three-year terms expiring at the 2007 meeting, are: James Martin, vice president of marketing, Heidelberg USA; Jochen Meissner, executive vice president and COO, Goss International; and Chris Morrissey, corporate vice president of marketing, Sun Chemical. Re-elected to terms expiring at the 2007 meeting were D. J. Burgess, president and CEO, Burgess Industries; Bruce Goodwin, president, Glunz & Jensen; and David Reny, vice president and managing director, Standard Finishing Systems. Kathryn Marx, vice president of marketing and strategic planning, Flint Ink, was elected to serve the second year of her term as chair of the association. Elected to serve as officers with Marx were Regis J. Delmontagne, president; William Smythe Jr., vice president; Mark Nuzzaco, secretary; and Thomas Saggiomo, treasurer. Elected to serve on the executive committee with Marx and Saggiomo were H.A. Brandtjen III, president, Brandtjen & Kluge; Gerald Clark, director of sales, corporate accounts, Graphics Microsystems; Paul Madill, executive vice president and COO, Madern USA; Don Ohlig, managing director, OLEC Corp.; and Reny. Also at the conference, Stanley Freimuth, senior executive vice president and CAO of Fuji Photo Film USA, and Goss International received the 2004 Harold W. Gegenheimer Awards for Industry Service.
Heidelberg USA donated several pieces of new equipment to the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (GATF) at Graph Expo and Converting Expo 2004. During a special ceremony in the Heidelberg booth, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen CEO Bernhard Schreier presented PIA/GATF Chairman John Green, PIA/GATF President and CEO Michael Makin and PIA/GATF Executive Vice President and COO George Ryan with the donation of prepress and postpress equipment. The list included a Stahl TH 66 folder, a Polar 137 XT cutter with System 2, Prinect Compucut and Prinect FCS 100.
Busch Inc., a manufacturer of vacuum pumps and systems, has appointed Charles Kane president. Kane has spent 16 years in sales, marketing and general management roles in the electrical distribution and control industry working for Westinghouse/Cutler-Hammer and General Electric. Most recently he was controls general manager for General Electric's consumer and industrial business.
Brian Hilfrank has joined the outside sales staff of Roosevelt Paper. He brings more than 19 years of experience in the paper industry. He covers Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont.
Océ announced the realignment of the sales department of the Digital Document Systems (DDS) division in the U.S. to reflect specialization in key market segments. Daniel Powell has been appointed senior vice president of sales for the division, reporting to Malkon Baboyian, president of the DDS division. Michael Roberts is vice president of sales for corporate and commercial accounts; Robert Berman serves as vice president of sales for graphic arts; Bryan Beauchamp has been tapped as vice president of sales for the public sector; and John Forbes was appointed vice president of alternate channels. Also, Dominic Caputo serves as vice president of strategic accounts.
Boise Cascade has completed the sale of its paper, forest products and timberland assets for approximately $3.7 billion to affiliates of a new company formed by Madison Dearborn Partners. Included in the sale are the headquarters building in Boise, ID. W. Thomas Stephens is the newly named CEO of Boise Cascade LLC.
This year, Mitsubishi Lithographic Presses (MLP U.S.A.) celebrates the 25th anniversary of the company's first press sale and installation in the United States. The six-color, 40˝ sheetfed press is currently owned and operated by CartonCraft Inc. of Barrington, IL.
