QTI became the first web auxiliary equipment provider to sell a closed-loop color control system in the Latin American market. At PRINT 01, Rotomagno SA de CV, of Guadalajara, Mexico, purchased QTI's Color Control System with Instrument Flight for its new four-unit Mitsubishi Diamond 16 web press.
Newly formed distributor Enovation Graphic Systems has named Steve Gryder regional vice president, Central. Jim Purcell has accepted the position of regional vice president, Midwest. John Solwold was appointed regional vice president, West. Jon D. Wright takes a post as regional vice president, East. Also, Frank H. Glunt is now account manager for the Chicago area.
Harris & Bruno announced the appointment of Jim Hughes as the new Midwest sales manager. Hughes, formerly with Flint Ink, is now responsible for representing Harris & Bruno's complete line of flexographic equipment and products in 12 Midwestern states. In addition, he is representing Harris & Bruno's offset equipment line in three of the 12 states.
David Reny, vice president and managing director of Standard Finishing Systems, has been elected chairman of NPES The Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies. Rosemary Raley, Royce Manufacturing; Andrew Copley, Kodak Polychrome Graphics; and W. Bruce Goodwin, Glunz & Jensen, are new NPES directors. Re-elected to terms expiring in 2004 were D.J. Burgess, Burgess Industries; Donn Goldstick, Heidelberg USA; Ulrik Nygaard, Heidelberg Web Systems; Bert Ohlig, OLEC Corp.; Greg Palm, Xerox Corp.; and Richard Sutis, Goss Graphic Systems. In other NPES news, Hans Peetz-Larsen, CEO of Heidelberg Americas, and the Bobst Group have received the 2001 Harold W. Gegenheimer Awards for industry service.
Flint Ink has made two executive appointments within its news ink operations. Roy Beagle now serves as vice president, global news ink, and James Bitterle has been named vice president and general manager of the North American news ink division.
Pitman Co. has signed a letter of intent to purchase certain assets of fellow graphic arts supplier Litho Development and Research (LDR). The assets to be acquired include LDR's sales and distribution facilities in the Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City and Denver markets.

John T. Heald Jr. has been elected CEO of Baldwin Technology. He has served as a director of the company since 1996, before being named president and COO in March 2001. Former Baldwin CEO Gerald A. Nathe will continue to serve as chairman of the company.
Mark Pellman has been promoted to marketing manager for Baum dealers and special products. Pellman joined Baumfolder in 1983 in the design engineering department and had been promoted to director of new product development, then sales engineer.
Fox River Paper announced that Daniel D. King is the company's new CEO, succeeding Robert C. Buchanan, who will remain chairman of the board of directors. King, who was serving as president and COO, assumes the new dual role of president and CEO.
Southwest Plastic Binding has opened a new 40,000-square-foot warehouse in St. Louis. The new facility doubles the size of the company's previous Missouri warehouse.
As part of its "Ideas That Matter" program, Sappi Ltd. has awarded $1 million to graphic artists around the world to design projects for the non-profit organizations of their choice. Since "Ideas That Matter" was introduced in 1999, Sappi has granted $1 million a year—$400,000 in both North America and Europe, $200,000 in South Africa—to chosen designers to create materials for community organizations. BASF announced that its North American Printing Systems Group formed a strategic alliance with xpedx, a division of International Paper, to nationally distribute BASF's line of K&E printing inks, photopolymer printing plates and platemaking equipment in the U.S.
The Printing Industries Association of Southern California (PIASC) has named Patrick Marchese as its Pioneer of the Year. The award will be presented at the association's annual awards banquet, The Graphics Gala, on February 23 at Pacific Palms Conference Resort in the City of Industry, CA. Marchese is the founder behind Markzware, the preflight technology pioneer.
