NPES The Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies elected three new directors at its annual meeting in October. The new directors, elected to three-year terms expiring at the 2005 annual meeting, are: H.A. Brandtjen III, president, Brandtjen & Kluge, St. Croix Falls, WI; John Hamm, vice president of marketing, Xerox Corp., Worldwide Graphic Arts Business, McLean, VA; and Juergen Stolt, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Pantone Inc., Carlstadt, NJ. In addition, Edward McLoughlin, president of Oxy-Dry Corp., and Prime UV Systems received the 2002 Harold W. Gegenheimer Awards for Industry Service at the NPES conference.
Enovation Graphic Systems has named Paul Lynaugh as its electronic imaging manager for the Eastern region.
Heidelberg USA and 80 Sir Speedy franchisees recently met to address current challenges facing the short-run print market, discuss business growth strategies and participate in demonstrations to help the business owners maximize the benefits of their Heidelberg solutions. The key issues discussed among the group were the market's continual challenges to combat the soft economy and conservative attitudes about consumer spending. Additionally, Heidelberg used the day to get feedback from the owners on their key solution needs.
New York University's Center for Graphic Communications Management and Technology has appointed Jeff Jacobson, CEO of Kodak Polychrome Graphics (KPG), chairman of its advisory board. Jacobson joined the board in 1999. In other company news, KPG has announced four key appointments as part of a repositioning of the company. Richard Rindo serves as director of segment sales, including newspapers, channel sales and digital equipment. Todd Zimmerman is now director of field-based sales and national accounts. Bob Rohr assumes the position of director of sales and technical operations. Michele Laird-Williams has been named director of print media.
MAN Roland is integrating the newspaper and the commercial sides of its Web Press Project Management Team in an effort to focus more resources on large press installations. Under the integration plan, John Evans now directs both the Commercial Web and Newspaper Project Management teams. He previously headed the Commercial Web Project Management Group, as well as MAN Roland's North American Engineering Support Group. The Commercial Web and Newspaper Project Support groups are transferring from Stonington, CT, to MAN's headquarters in Westmont, IL. In other news, Thierry Barbeau has been named district sales manager, eastern Canadian region. He is based in Montreal. Also, John Manning is the new Western region general manager heading MAN Roland's Huntington Beach, CA, office.
Jim Weaver has been appointed general manager, graphic arts and retail business units, for X-Rite. He is responsible for managing all business activities associated with both X-Rite's retail business unit and graphic arts business unit. Weaver formerly was general manager of the retail business unit.
David Flint, executive vice president for Flint Ink, was recently honored with a lifetime achievement award established in his name by the company's North American News Ink Group in recognition of his more than 30 years of service to the newspaper printing industry. The first recipient of the award was Roy Beagle, a 40-year veteran of the company, who currently serves as Flint Ink's vice president of global news ink.
Komori America announced that Mike VanCalbergh has been promoted to vice president of sales, Midwest region. VanCalbergh assumes the sales management responsibility for Komori sales in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri and Minnesota. He has been with the company since 1990. Also, Paul Peyrebrune has joined the company as senior vice president of national sales. Peyrebrune, now based out of Komori's headquarters in Rolling Meadows, IL, most recently served as president and CEO of Xeikon America.
One of the pioneers of Sun Chemical, Massie Odiotti, passed away in November after a lengthy illness. Mr. Odiotti last served as executive vice president and general manager, Sun Chemical Ink (GPI). He officially retired from Sun Chemical after 40 years with the company on December 31, 2000. After that date, he retained his affiliation with the company on a part-time basis.
Day International has expanded the marketing team for its new Image Transfer Group in North America. The marketing team now includes: Mike Neroni, vice president of marketing, Transfer Media Division; Jeff Pieper, vice president of marketing, Chemical Products Division; Kevin Fennewald, director of marketing, Chemical Products Division; Bill Branson, director of marketing, Transfer Media Division; Bob Andrew, business director, sleeves and OEM marketing; Ted Fournier, director of national accounts, Image Transfer Group; and Archie Doyle, director of marketing, distribution.
Esko-Graphics, Gent, Belgium, announced the appointment of Nicolai Gradman as its new senior vice president of manufacturing. For the last nine years Gradman worked for pump manufacturer Grundfos. Also, Hubert Scheir has been named director of marketing operations. Scheir has held marketing positions at companies such as Agfa, Scitex and CreoScitex over the past 15 years.
During its annual Spectrum conference, IDEAlliance honored Larry Warter of Fujifilm USA with the organization's Leadership Award. The award was given to Warter for demonstrating an extraordinary level of dedication and commitment by providing leadership and direction to the Spectrum committee over the duration of several years, resulting in better coordination and process management throughout the graphic communications industry.
Apago Inc., a developer of workflow efficiency software, announced that Fujifilm's Graphic Systems division selected Apago to supply the file conversion technology for the new Aozora translation software used with Fujifilm's FINALPROOF digital halftone proofing system.
Ronald Daly has been named president and CEO of Océ-USA. He now manages Océ's North American operations from the company's U.S. headquarters in Chicago. Daly will also be nominated to the Océ N.V. board of executive directors at the company's annual meeting in March. He will be the first American to run the North American operation and the first to sit on the board of the Netherlands-based parent. Daly had served as president of R.R. Donnelley Print Solutions since the unit's creation in 2001.
