The Queen's Award for the overseas sales of book printing presses was presented to Timsons Ltd. at a ceremony at the company's UK headquarters recently. It was attended by all of the company's employees and almost 100 guests. After the reading of the citation, the Lord Lieutenant of Northamptonshire, Lady Juliet Townsend, presented a scroll to Timsons' Managing Director Peter Brown and a commemorative engraved rose bowl to Jane Brown, director and granddaughter of the company founder.
Polly USA, previously the independent distributor with the exclusive right to market Polly sheetfed offset presses in the United States and Canada, has been acquired by the manufacturer of Polly presses, Grafitec, headquartered in the Czech Republic. Polly USA now operates and is managed as a wholly owned subsidiary company of the parent company and will continue directing North American operations from its headquarters in Jacksonville, FL. All key members of the Polly USA management team remain in place.
IKON Office Solutions announced that Matthew Espe has been appointed president and CEO. Espe was most recently president and CEO of GE Lighting. He brings to his new position at IKON more than 20 years of experience in distribution, sales and marketing. To smooth the transition to new leadership, James Forese will remain as chairman of the board of directors until the company's next annual meeting in February 2003.
Escher-Grad Technologies has appointed Robert Lee to the position of vice president of sales. He previously was employed by M3i Systems as senior vice president of sales.
Georgia-Pacific has appointed Terry Gould as director of sales for its commercial papers group. He enters this new role after serving for nearly six years as director of sales and marketing for the Kraft Paper Group at G-P. Gould joined the company in 1988 in the containerboard and packaging division.
MAN Roland is offering a computer-based Press Operating Profitability (POP) analysis that helps printing plants select the full-size press that most economically fulfills their production requirements. Developed in conjunction with the National Association of Printing Leadership (NAPL), the analysis is provided as a free service to printers who are looking to purchase a full-size sheetfed system.
Printable Technologies and Prism USA jointly announce the first PrintTalk-based integration to be used in production between a Web-based print ordering system (Printable) and a printing management information system (Prism). The Printable-Prism integration was on display in Chicago at Graph Expo and Converting Expo 2002, with several customer pilot sites operational at the time.
Larry Warter, director of new business development for Fuji Photo Film USA, has been chosen as the recipient of the Leonard Holzinger Award by the Association of Graphic Solutions (IPA) for his more than 30 years of service to the graphic arts industry.
Baldwin Technology has added responsibilities for Karl Puehringer and Martin Buttlar. As VP of operations, Puehringer is now also VP of product management. Buttlar, VP of global technical service, is the new director for Baldwin Germany GmbH.
