Open House Event Deemed a Success
LINCOLNSHIRE, IL—Mitsubishi Lithographic Presses (MLP U.S.A.) hosted a technology open house recently at the company’s headquarters here. Billed as “Diamond Days,” the event focused on the theme “New Technology Opening New Worlds,” exemplified by the latest advancements in the Diamond series 40˝ sheetfed press lineup. Highlighted were the Diamond 3000LX press, the Diamond 3000TP Tandem Perfector and the new Mabeg RS 104 in-line reel sheeter.
Wausau Paper announced several new hires in the marketing department for its Printing and Writing sector. Jennifer Cox has joined Wausau as product manager. Andrea Alstad takes over as brand manager for the Exact brand of products. And Angie White has been promoted to brand manager for the Astrobrights, Astropaque and Royal brands of products. In other news, the company announced the addition of 50-lb. text rolls as a stock item for the Exact Opaque Colors line.
Darren George has been named operations manager for xpedx Printing Technologies. The Lenexa, KS-based company is the exclusive, full-line marketer and distributor of Ryobi-branded presses.
Sun Chemical is linking up with Heidelberg on new projects. The foundations have been laid for longer-term cooperation through the two companies continuing to share knowledge and experiences. In other news, Sun Chemical has sold the assets of its Sun Graphic blankets to Day International.
Patrick Avery has been named director of sales and marketing at QuadTech Inc.
Stora Enso announced Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification of its premium coated printing paper, Centura. This label provides the company’s end users with the confidence that purchasing Centura directly supports responsible forest management.
JUST Normlicht reports that its Daylight 5000 proGraphic fluorescent tubes have been quality-certified for excellence by the Philips OCM (Optical Calibration and Measurement) Laboratory, an independent testing facility.
Richard Stratz, a web offset industry veteran with 25 years of experience, has joined Goss International as district sales manager. Stratz is covering states in the Northwest and Southwest, including Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. He is focused on Goss commercial web press and finishing products.
Sappi Fine Paper North America’s mill in Cloquet, MN, received the 2006 Lake Superior Binational Program’s Industry Environmental Stewardship Award. The program honors the achievements of organizations that are protecting or restoring the natural environment of the Lake Superior basin. The Cloquet mill and Sappi’s Westbrook, ME, mill have also achieved ISO 14001:2004 environmental certification.
Harris & Bruno International has acquired Kemp Equipment of Fort Worth, TX. Kemp is a manufacturer of parts for Dahlgren and related items such as blanket coaters and dampeners. Aside from Kemp’s current assets, which include a full-service machine shop, the purchase also comprises the rights to a patent on a retrofittable gear reduction of the form rolls for hickey prevention.
George Lynd has joined Economy Paper as an outside sales representative. Aaron Behr has been promoted to customer service manager. Also, James Mulholland has been promoted to operations manager.
Mitsubishi Lithographic Presses has appointed Tom Kaz as a district sales representative for the company’s Eastern region. He is responsible for sales of Mitsubishi sheetfed presses throughout the state of New York.
Amerikal Products has launched a new Website to focus on and educate the public about Genesis Pressroom Chemistry, a division of Amerikal. The site, www.genesischemistry.com, launched in July.
Rena Systems has hired Samantha Jung as marketing coordinator. Jung was previously a marketing intern for the company.
Presstek Inc. has made several personnel announcements. William Keller has been named senior vice president of operations. The company appointed Klaus Schleicher as director, international business development. Also, Presstek has expanded its sales regions and has hired Ralph Jenkins to fill the newly created position of regional sales director for the Northeast region.
Exstream Software’s Dialogue 5.0 enterprise document personalization software has achieved certification from SAP AG for integration with the SAP NetWeaver platform. Through the “Certified for SAP NetWeaver” status, achieved using the SAPscript interface, customers can seamlessly integrate SAP NetWeaver with Dialogue.
Monotype Imaging has acquired Linotype GmbH, a subsidiary of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen and home of the Linotype typeface library. Linotype and its employees will remain based in Bad Homburg, Germany, and operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Monotype Imaging.
Beth Ann Scullin, EnvelopeAmerica, was recently promoted to sister company FileAmerica. She will be working to produce new business, and maintain current relationships in the northern East Coast. Sales representative Megan Kradzinski will be servicing Scullin’s accounts.
Day International has promoted Mike Neroni to senior vice president of sales and marketing. In his expanded role, he will direct the marketing and selling activities for the Americas and also lead Day’s integrated sales organization, which is made up of the former Day, Varn and NDI sales teams.
Enovation Graphic Systems has welcomed Todd Zimmerman as the company’s new vice president of national accounts. Zimmerman spent the last 23 years with Kodak Polychrome Graphics, where he held several sales and management positions. Also, Tom O’Donnell has been hired as a sales specialist for the wide-format market. He previously worked for Vutek, where he sold grand-format printers and UV ink-jet solutions, and will cover New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Mohawk Fine Papers announced the winners of its seventh annual Mohawk Show. From more than 1,500 entries, five Best of Shows were selected. This included the traditional top four winners plus this year’s special Identity Excellence award. Twenty finalists, or Awards of Excellence, were also named. The Best of Show winners were printed both domestically and abroad. The five winning entries were printed by: Colorcraft of Virginia, Sterling, VA, for AIGA 50 Call for Inspirations; Shapco Printing, Minneapolis, for Swarm; RA Printing, Victoria, Australia, for Dan Magree Photography Stationery; Whitehouse Graphics, Norristown, PA, for Campaign for the Hun School of Princeton; and Graytor, Lyndhurst, NJ, for Kate Spade New York.
EFI announced the formation of the Web Products User Advisory Council to facilitate a two-way dialogue with customers of its Web solutions, including the PrinterSite suite of products and PrintSmith Site. The User Advisory Council was conceived at this year’s EFI Connect conference. The council meetings are open to all current EFI Web product customers.
Ciba Specialty Chemicals has acquired a majority share in the company MetalFX, creator of the concept that allows thousands of metallic effects to be produced accurately in one run on a five-color press. Andrew Ainge, managing director of MetalFX, will continue to head the company, which will be further developed and expanded.
La Crosse Litho Supply has signed a partnership agreement with INX International Ink to distribute its ink products. Due to La Crosse Litho’s growth, the company will be moving from its Pewaukee, WI, headquarters to a new facility, capable of housing up to 48,000 square feet of warehouse, office and technical center space, located in Sussex, WI.
