Two Industry Veterans Honored
CHICAGO—At the 2001 R&E Council bindery, finishing and distribution seminar here, Ronald L. Mihills, R&E Council managing director (left), honored retiring RIT professor Werner T. Rebsamen (center) and Ralph F. Box Jr., conference co-chair and senior vice president of Muller Martini, for their many years of service to the industry. Both men were presented an engraved glass globe in commemoration of their careers.
Sun Chemical CEO Shines in NYC
NEW YORK CITY—At the 16th annual New York University Prism Award luncheon, which honors exceptional leaders in the graphic arts and communications industry and benefits the NYU Center for Graphic Communications Management and Technology, this year's honoree Henri Dyner, president and CEO of Sun Chemical, was presented the award by William L. Davis, chairman, CEO and president of R.R. Donnelley & Sons.
Baldwin Technology announced it has signed a contract to supply its IMPACT global automatic blanket cleaning systems to the New York Post in a deal worth more than $2 million. Starting this summer, 184 double-wide units will be installed on four Goss Post Liner presses currently being sited at the Post's new facility in the Bronx.
Brad Moseley has been named to the sales staff of Ferag Americas. He will cover a number of western states for the manufacturer of gripper conveyor systems and related postpress products.
Brendan Finnegan has joined the Muller Martini press division sales team in the capacity of regional sales manager. Finnegan has almost 20 years experience in graphic arts sales. He is based in southern Connecticut and is responsible for press sales on the East Coast.
Flint Ink Europe has announced the opening of its new sheetfed ink "mother plant" in Helmond, The Netherlands. The mother plant produces Arrowstar process, PANTONE match and spot color inks for printers and converters in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
Brandtjen & Kluge has announced the appointment of Felipe A. Ferradas as director of Latin American sales. In this position, Ferradas will lead Kluge's direct and indirect sales channels in Latin America. He will be responsible for the sale of Kluge's complete line of foil stamping, embossing and diecutting presses, folding and gluing systems, and web press systems.
Mitsubishi Lithographic Presses announced that Joe Finger, former Litho Center supervisor, has joined the Mitsubishi western regional sales team. In his new position, Finger will provide sales support at the company's west coast headquarters in Torrance, CA.
Harlequin, a subsidiary of Global Graphics, has signed a software license agreement with Ultimate Technographics to incorporate the Jaws RIP into a range of prepress products. The deal is said to be worth in the region of $500,000 to $1 million over the first 12 months.
Hugh J. Connery, a 30-year veteran of the communications business with expertise in the printing, packaging, converting, plastics, ceramics and chemical supplies industries, has formed Connery Communications, a full-service business-to-business advertising, marketing and public relations company, located in Lafayette Hill, PA.
Varn International has promoted Archie Doyle to vice president of sales, with total sales responsibility for North America, South America and Japan. Doyle joined the company in 1973, and has been working out of Varn's Houston facility for the past 10 years in the capacity of western sales manager.
Fuji Photo Film has named David Murray director of sales and marketing for myfujifilm.com. Murray joined the Graphics Systems division of Fujifilm in 1998 as director of sales, east. Prior to joining Fujifilm, he held various sales positions at Eastman Kodak and Daniels Printing.
Clark Lipton has joined the outside sales staff of Roosevelt Paper and will cover the New York Long Island territory. He will work out of the firm's facility in Mt. Laurel, NJ.
DALiM Software has appointed Gee Ranasinha to the newly created, senior position of director of marketing. For the last six years, Ranasinha has been marketing and channel manager for Turning Point Technologies, a UK-based distributor of prepress and computer solutions.
John Duerden has been appointed CEO of Xerox Engineering Systems, succeeding Agnes Lewis, who has left the company to pursue other interests. Duerden most recently served as chairman and CEO of Dictaphone Corp. His resume also includes stints with Xerox Corp. and Reebok International.
MAN Roland has announced several personnel moves. Eric Belcher has been named the company's new CFO. He replaces Birgit Kuhn who is returning to Germany to take another position within the company. Jan Hommema is the new district sales manager for the central region. He comes to MAN Roland from Xerox Commercial Printing Division. Daniel Ross has been appointed district sales manager for the southern region. He is the former owner of Atlanta-based Ross Printing. Michael Mugavero is the new general manager, sheetfed and commercial presses, northeast U.S. and Canada, and Jon Surch is now general manager, sheetfed and commercial presses, for the southeast region.
Industry distributor Pitman Co. has acquired online printing equipment and supplies store PrintNation. The PrintNation site will now offer Pitman's full product line. Pitman will retain the PrintNation name for the e-commerce site. In addition, Pitman will continue to support its own Website, www.pitman.com, for customer information, support services, product sales, technical resources and industry information.
Printing Developments Inc. (PDI) has named Tom Bevan as the new director of sales and marketing. Bevan comes to PDI from Elkay Manufacturing.
Systems integrator Torque Systems has acquired industry Internet service provider Digital Art Exchange (DAX). Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it does not include the PrintPlanet.com spin-off. The DAX employees will now form the nucleus of Torque Systems' Boston office. DAX network products will be offered and supported by Torque Systems.
BASF's Printing Systems business unit, a provider of photopolymer printing plates and inks for the packaging industry, has opened a new Technical Center in Charlotte, NC, to serve the North American market. Located at 2401 Whitehall Park Drive, Suite 100, the new BASF center is just 10 miles south of uptown Charlotte and 15 minutes from the airport.
The top dealers of A.B.Dick equipment and supplies for 2000 were honored by the company recently. Those feted by A.B.Dick were recognized for their sales achievements by region. They included Will Vercoe, Offtech of Maine (East); Bill Freeman, G.E. Richards Graphic Supplies (South); Chris Bartnick, Printing & Business Solutions (Midwest); and Tom Young, Nelson-Keystone (West).
NPES The Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies has announced a $300,000 gift to the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation. It is the largest single contribution the foundation has ever received. It will be used to fund an endowed scholarship in the name of longtime NPES President Regis J. Delmontagne.
Temperature control equipment manufacturer Royse Manufacturing has announced two new members of its sales and marketing team. Mark Nevels is the new sales representative and Traci White has been named marketing coordinator.
