Chicago-based CrossTech Communications has earned FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) chain-of-custody certifications.
In Portland, OR, Wright Enterprises has received multi-plant chain-of-custody FSC certifications for its trade-only printing facilities here and in Kent, WA.
Green Solutions Printing, Eugene, OR, has garnered both Ancient Forest Friendly and B Corporation certifications. Ancient Forest Friendly certification is given to printers and publishers that use a high percentage of post- consumer waste and FSC-certified paper products.
According to the printer, a B Corporation is a new type of corporation designed to solve social and environmental problems. Green Solutions says it has met comprehensive and transparent social and environmental performance standards to be certified.
The Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors recognized B&B Printing, Richmond, VA, with a resolution for "Exemplary Environmental Stewardship." The board honored B&B for the numerous steps it has taken to improve its environmental impact.
The Sustainable Green Printing (SGP) Partnership has certified Alcom, a Harleysville, PA-based provider of integrated solutions for print, direct mail marketing and business development, as an SGP Printer. It also recently certified Robbie, of Lenexa, KS.
Through its commitment to 100 percent sustainable wind energy Boutwell, Owens and Co., Fitchburg, MA, has been listed as a Green E Partner at the Leadership Level with purchases of 3.1 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy. Additionally, the printed packaging manufacturer has invested in carbon offset credits in its effort to strive for carbon neutrality.
Boutwell, Owens and Co. says it is one of 27 printing companies to have earned this EPA designation at the Leadership Circle level.

Presstek has joined the Verdigris Project as an associate member. Verdigris an international not-for-profit environmental research initiative. It aims to raise awareness of print's positive environmental impact through cooperative content development with an international network of trade publishers, and creates a dialogue with printing markets worldwide.
