Tech-ni-Fold Reaches Settlement in Lawsuit Against Update, D&R
LUTTERWORTH, UK—Nov. 18, 2011—Tech-ni-Fold Ltd., the UK manufacturer of creasing, perforating and cutting solutions, reached a settlement this week in its patent infringement lawsuit against Update Ltd. and D&R Bindery Solutions of Chaska, MN. Under the terms of the settlement, Update agreed to cease manufacturing the “Ultimate Score” product and its consumable components. Update also discontinued sales of its current Ultimate Score design in April of this year and is transferring certain assets to Tech-ni-Fold Ltd.
Tech-ni-Fold USA, the North American dealer for the Tech-ni-Fold Ltd. line of products, has initiated the trade-in program for Update’s Ultimate Score customers. Owners of these now-discontinued products can contact the company directly for more details on the program. In many cases, customers may qualify for a credit of up to the full amount they paid for their Update products when they purchase any EZ-Fit or Fast Fit Tri-Creaser from Tech-ni-Fold USA.
Graham Harris, managing director of Tech-ni-Fold Ltd, commented, “We are delighted with the settlement of this suit. Customers have come to trust Tech-ni-Fold as an innovator in the field of unique creasing products, and we have invested heavily in improving these products to retain a leading position in the market.
“While no company desires to spend resources combating infringement, at times it must be done,” Harris continued. “We will act to protect our company’s intellectual property and the customers who depend on the quality and innovation our intellectual property represents. Further to this, we are backing a trade-in program, devised by our USA dealer, to help those that have been unfairly and unknowingly caught out, those that are left with devices for which they can no longer buy consumables.”
