Telepathic Graphics Supports Business Expansion with Canon Color Press, Workflow
LAKE SUCCESS, NY—Nov. 29, 2012—Telepathic Graphics, a digital and offset printer based in the Raleigh, NC area, partnered with Canon Business Solutions to increase the company’s print services through a major capital investment in hardware, as well as a new workflow solution that integrates seamlessly into the shop’s existing Apogee system.
Telepathic Graphics’ goals were to increase speed, automate more processes, and successfully manage the growth it was undergoing as the result of the purchase of an offset print shop and the acquisition of some large contracts. Management is anticipating a revenue increase of between $500,000 and $1 million over the next year.
Bob Boyle, chief telepath at Telepathic Graphics, said, “We built the business on the back of the Canons,” referring to two Canon digital presses that they already owned. “When it came time to add to our fleet, we didn’t just go with what we knew; we did a lot of research.”
That extensive search led to Canon Business Solutions, which could supply the company with the digital presses it needed to grow, and also had the knowledge needed to work with the printer to develop a hybrid offset and digital workflow.
“Canon Business Solutions had the capabilities and quality that no other vendor could offer,” asserts Boyle.
The first component of Telepathic Graphics’ expansion was the addition of three Canon imagePRESS 7010VP digital presses. These digital presses produce the near-offset quality that the firm was looking for, while also being the workhorses it needed. It bought the machines based on the projection (and subsequently realized) of using them 20 hours a day, five to six days a week. In just the first four weeks, the presses generated more than 1.4 million clicks combined.
The second component was more complicated. The two companies worked in partnership to achieve a unique solution for combining offset and digital work, streamlining the printer’s process to create an “input once, output to many” environment.
David Fries, major account executive at Canon Business Solutions, coordinated the necessary resources in order to do a full assessment and work toward the development of the solution that would integrate the existing Apogee system to create a seamless workflow to the imagePRESS. This is critical to Telepathic Graphics’ business, to support its motto of “on time, every time.”
“This is a quantum leap solution for digital printing,” noted Boyle.
As evidence, he shared the details of one job: a mailing of 17,000, 9x16˝ pieces, with complex finishing requirements, that would typically be run offset, taking three to four days. Utilizing the Canon imagePRESS 7010VP digital presses, the company was able to finish the job in just 16 hours.
“We’re just getting started on what the possibilities are for even more improvements to our system,” added Boyle.
This successful partnership between the two companies began with an in-depth analysis of Telepathic Graphics’ workflow. It then progressed to a live demonstration of the new solution at Canon Business Solutions’ headquarters, so that the team from Telepathic Graphics could see its exact workflow with Apogee in action.
