Watch this week's Short Attention Span Sales Tip here.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
Good morning!
Did that seem like a long time? It was only 8 seconds.
That’s how long you have to capture someone’s attention. Whether it’s an email or a voicemail message, a video or a white paper, those first words make a huge difference.
For example, it took 8 seconds for me to count off 8 seconds. It got your attention, though, didn’t it?
Reading your email or listening to a voicemail, the client is holding a finger over the delete button. Do you really want to spend time saying, “Hope you are doing well”? A good voicemail starts off with a bang, not feigned concern.
A good LinkedIn post has an opening line that hooks you. It makes you want to hit the “See More” button. And a good Monday morning sales tip starts with “Good morning!”
We are all flooded with messages. With time at a premium and attention spans at a minimum, we are challenged to get our thoughts across succinctly. But even the best messages will go to waste if you are not focused on the opening line.
Make sure you are producing solid content and communication, but pay special attention to the first 8 seconds.
Eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one…
