For the first time this year, the 2018 SGIA Expo features an exciting competition for all vehicle wrap specialists. Taking place over all three days of the show, the competition is a chance for teams to show off their skills, as well as compete for the $2,000 grand prize. The event is sponsored by Arlon (Booth 721), Ritrama (Booth 2451) and 3M (Booth 2661).
Each team will be made up of two members, with a registration fee of $150 per team. If you didn’t get the chance to register ahead of the show, visit booth 4118, where the competition will be taking place, to sign up for an open slot to compete.
On day one, each team will have a time slot with 20 minutes to wrap the side of a designated vehicle, with the material provided by Arlon. Teams will be judged based on not only how fast they can complete the job, but also on the quality of the work, with judges deducting points for each infraction. On day two, the teams that survived the first round will be given the same 20 minutes to wrap another vehicle, this time using a vinyl from Ritrama. Finally, the last teams standing on day three will be eligible to wrap for the third time, using 3M’s vinyl, and will try to compete for the prizes.
The chief judge for the competition will be Jeremy Conner, President of Who Did That, Inc. Conner is a well-known vehicle wrap judge for several events at the FESPA show.
The first place winner will receive a cash prize of $2,000, while second place will secure $1,000 and third place will take home $500. Not to mention the bragging rights of beating out the other teams, in full view of the industry on the SGIA show floor.
“This is a good group of professionals, that loves bragging rights,” says Ray Weiss, Director of Digital Print Programs, SGIA (Booth 1961). “If you see other wrap competitions, you see a lot of the same people competing. It is going to be interesting — there are some good names signed up.” What sets the 2018 SGIA Wrap Team Challenge apart from other vehicle wrap competitions, Weiss notes, is that there is the cash prize in addition to those bragging rights.
The final winners of the Challenge will be announced on the show floor on the final day of the 2018 SGIA Expo, at noon in booth 4118. Everyone in invited to stop by throughout the show to watch the teams compete, as well as for the final announcement of the winners.
