WEST BRANCH, Iowa - November 7, 2017 - Tidewater Direct LLC, specializing in web offset and inkjet trade printing and finishing for the direct mail industry, has announced the installation of a 10-color Sanden 1500 printing press for its West Branch Iowa location. This marks the third Sanden in Iowa and the 8th in the company’s fleet of continuous forms direct mail printing presses. For consistency in print and operator training, Tidewater has fashioned two pressrooms with high-quality print redundancy using Sanden printing equipment. The addition of the third press allows West Branch to perform fewer cylinder changes in its regular workflow which increases efficiency and reduces cost. This installation is an astounding commitment to the direct mail printing markets in which it continues to be a growing player.

Notably, this press will now enable West Branch to print 10-color forms with 22˝ and 28˝ repeats. This lends itself well to direct mail printing that requires 4cp on both sides plus a spot color - in many cases that can be a logo or another critical color. The press is fully capable of additional formats that use all 10 units. This new capability brings value to West Branch’s already-capable pressroom which includes 6 and 8 color Sanden UV presses.
“Replacing an outdated press line with a 10-color Sanden gives Iowa the tools it needs to be successful in the highly competitive Midwest direct mail continuous forms market,” says Geoff Eisenberg, executive VP of Tidewater Direct. “We’re pleased that Iowa is growing organically with quality equipment, excellent service and staffing.”
The press is fitted with 10 printing towers with 22˝ and 28˝ inserts, an extended bindery section, and a GEC turret rewinder for continuous roll to roll production and delivery. A brand new CC1 camera and registration system was installed for assured quality. Additionally, each printing tower is equipped with UV interstation drying, including movable double lamps that can be stationed at turn bars. This press is ideal for high quality, high color continuous forms printing.
Ken Boone, president of Tidewater was also excited for the continued growth. “Having a Midwest footprint has tremendous benefits for our clients that mail nationally. The quality and consistency we get from these machines become synonymous without our brand. We’re pleased to make this investment in our Iowa facility.”
Tidewater invested earlier this year in a Screen HD press to launch its rollfed inkjet trade printing platform. This moves demonstrates Tidewater's progressive philosophy to continual investment. The 10 color Sanden press was installed late summer and is now fully operational to service the Midwest Direct Mail Continuous Forms Printing market.
