Total Printing-Writing Paper Shipments Declined in February
WASHINGTON, DC—March 25, 2011—According to the American Forest & Paper Association’s “February 2011 Printing-Writing Paper Report,” total printing-writing paper shipments decreased 6 percent compared to February 2010. All four major printing-writing grades posted decreases.
U.S. purchases (shipments + imports - exports) of printing-writing papers also decreased 6 percent in February. Total inventory levels increased 2 percent compared to January 2011.
The report also reveals:
• uncoated free sheet (UFS) inventory increased month-over-month for the fifth consecutive month;
• a year-over-year decrease of coated free sheet (CFS) shipments, ending a streak of increases for 15 consecutive months;
• purchases of coated mechanical (CM) paper decreased year-over-year for the sixth consecutive month; and
• uncoated mechanical (UM) year-over-year shipments declined for the second straight month.
