MONTREAL—Transcontinental will be closing its T.R. Offset printing plant in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, on June 4. Production of the daily paper Le Nouvelliste, the only publication printed at the plant, will be transferred to the new Transcontinental Transmag plant in Montreal, which recently has benefited from more than $60 million in investments.
Some 50 employees will be affected by the closure. All them will reportedly receive severance packages and out-placement services.
Going forward, Le Nouvelliste will be able to take advantage of the broad capabilities available at the Montreal plant. It is part of the printer's Canada-wide network of hybrid platforms designed for newspaper production.
