We're coming to the end of 2023, so we thought it was a good idea to pull together some of the top pieces of content from the year, as determined by you, our readers. Over the past 12 months, there has been a bevvy of M&A activity (always covered in the monthly Target Report articles), including private equity firm CD&R's acquisition of Veritiv (No. 8). Beyond the top 10 items, M&As continued to dominate the headlines with stories such as Mittera's acquisition of Geographics and CJK's acquisitions of McNaughton & Gunn and Worzalla, as well as the more recent news that Müller Martini Group acquired the Hunkeler Group.
Within the top 10, USPS' postage rate hike in July topped the list this year. There were two USPS rate hikes in 2023, with more planned for next year (the most recent announcement revealing rates will rise again in January 2024). Unsurprisingly, the annual Printing Impressions list of the largest printing companies in the U.S. and Canada (the 2023 list will be available online in the coming weeks) placed high within the top 10 items this year (No. 4). This list continues to be the most comprehensive and preeminent source for rankings in the printing industry.
Unfortunately, quite a few plant closures are listed below, with LSC Communications announcing it would close two Pennsylvania plants (No. 2) and its Warsaw, Indiana, gravure printing plant (No. 10), as well as Quad's announcements that it would shutter its Merced, California, retail insert and magazine printing plant and its Effingham, Illinois, plant, Nos. 6 and 7, respectively.
