Update on Brown Printing Chemical Mixup at Waseca, MN Plant
WASECA, MN—September 3, 2013—Brown Printing released the following statement in regard to its Aug. 30 chemical scare, which prompted a plant evacuation.
The Brown Printing Waseca plant was evacuated last Thursday as a result of mixing two reactive chemicals used in the cooling water of the chillers. The chemicals involved are ones that are normally mixed, but not in that concentration. This excess concentration caused a vapor discharge not normally experienced.
As a precaution the plant was evacuated and four employees were sent to the hospital for medical evaluation. All four were evaluated and released. After the incident occurred, all of the appropriate containment, mediation, and evacuation procedures were followed, minimizing the impact. The precautions we have taken are for the safety of our employees which is of utmost priority. The plant is currently operating at its normal capacity.
