Allied Adds Web Presses
MANCHESTER, CT—Family-owned commercial printer Allied Printing Services has purchased a pair of Komori System 38S web presses. The presses—which feature automatic plate changing and closed-loop color control—are expected to be operational this fall. Founded in 1949, Allied Printing Services offers web, sheetfed offset and digital printing services, paired with a full bindery, lettershop and fulfillment center.
Angelson Rejoins Quad
SUSSEX, WI—Printing industry veteran Mark Angelson has rejoined Quad/Graphics as a member of the company’s board of directors. Angelson was chairman and CEO of Worldcolor when it was acquired by Quad in 2010. He left the following year to become Deputy Mayor of Chicago and later became board chairman at NewPage Corp.
Binderies Buy Riverside
CLEVELAND—Finish Line Binderies and HF Group, both headquartered here, have jointly acquired The Riverside Group of Rochester, NY. Finish Line specializes in perfect and mechanical binding while HF Group provides specialty hardcover binding. The Riverside Group, now called Riverside Binding, offers hand finishing, foiling and diecutting, specialty packaging and Wire-o binding, among other products and services.
BCT Reaches W2P Milestone
FT. LAUDERDALE, FL—Orderprinting.com, BCT’s Web-to-print solution for corporate identity print ordering, processed its 10 millionth order in February. The company has set up more than 35,000 accounts on behalf of its distributors, with 40 percent of Fortune 1000 companies using the site for business cards, letterhead and envelopes, among other items.
Williamson Receives Award
DALLAS—Jerry Williamson, retired chairman and CEO of Williamson Printing, has been named the 2015 Visionary award recipient by Printing & Imaging Association of MidAmerica. Williamson, a past recipient of the Lewis Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award and an inductee into the Printing Impressions/RIT Printing Industry Hall of Fame, as well as a member of the Ben Franklin and Soderstrom societies, will be honored this month at the Graphic Excellence Awards Gala.
Wisconsin Firm Goes ESOP
MADISON, WI—MCD, a company that specializes in diecutting, foil stamping, and specialty coatings, has embarked upon an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). The move transfers ownership to MCD’s 57 full-time employees. The firm also announced that Bryon Johnson has been elevated to president and CEO.
Ripsch Garners PIA Honor
PITTSBURGH—Cary (Parrot) Ripsch, value stream manager for The Ovid Bell Press (a Walsworth Publishing company), is the 2015 recipient of Printing Industries of America’s Managing for Improvement Award. The award is bestowed each year on a manager in the printing industry who has demonstrated the ability to create real and lasting improvement for his or her company.
Web-to-Print Clarification
In our March 2015 article, “Unlocking the W2P Potential,” the statement was made that AlphaGraphics is transitioning away from the use of Four51 software. This is only the case for a trio of franchises owned by Edward Rothschild in the Denver market (business centers 424, 438 and 612). AlphaGraphics Inc. continues its long-term relationship with Four51. Printing Impressions regrets any confusion this may have caused.
