Grossman New Alexander CEO
CLIFTON, NJ—Roy Grossman, president of Sandy Alexander, has been promoted to CEO, effective January 1, 2003, the company announced. Grossman will replace Frank Stillo, who will remain as chairman of the board. Grossman, who also serves on the board of directors, was named president in 1995. He joined the company in 1991 as a managing director. Sandy Alexander also announced that it has attained ISO 14001 registration, in addition to its previously attained ISO 9002 certification.
Forest City Signs Press Pact
LONDON, ON—Forest City Graphics has ordered five KBA sheetfed offset presses: a six-color, 64˝ Rapida 162 with coater; a six-color, 56˝ Rapida 142 with coater and perfector; a six-color, 40˝ Rapida 105 with coater and perfector; and two four-color, 40˝ Rapida 105 presses, one with perfecting capabilities. The five presses are connected to KBA's Densitronic S closed-loop color control system and are CIP3 compliant, as well as prepped for CIP4. They feature fully automatic plate loading, fully automated washup systems and a CCD camera for online register control.
On-Demand Book Solution Created
NEW YORK CITY—The Inventory Management Solution (IMS), an integrated production line for the manufacture of on-demand soft cover books, was unveiled recently. IMS was developed by Nipson, Muller Martini and Hunkeler collaboratively with printer R.R. Donnelley. The system can produce runs of under 100 to more than 1,000 books. The module, which converts a roll of stock into bound and boxed books, was scheduled to start this summer at R.R. Donnelley Print Solutions' book plant in Harrisonburg, VA.
Closed-loop Color Converts
HOLLYWOOD, FL—Publication printer St Ives has retrofitted ColorQuick closed-loop color control capabilities from Graphics Microsystems on all of the web presses at its facility here. Japs-Olson Co., based in St. Louis Park, MN, has also added ColorQuick systems to the balance of its Heidelberg presses after installing the first system in July of 2001.
IWCO Installs Heatset Web Press
CHANHASSEN, MN—A six-unit Heidelberg M-1000 heatset web press with in-line finishing capabilities was purchased by The Instant Web Companies to augment its services to the direct marketing segment. The finishing line includes Scheffer's Series III rotary cutter and TED table. Four double-tiered plow stations provide format flexibility with up to 18 plow folds.
Brooks Makes Mark with Press
NORTH AMITYVILLE, NY—Long Island digital printing trailblazer Brooks Litho & Digital Group, which installed its first digital offset press in 1995, recently acquired a new five-color HP Indigo Ultrastream 3000 digital press. The Ultrastream 3000, reportedly the first of its kind on Long Island, is capable of printing complex variable data jobs.
Mail-Well Refinances Credit
ENGLEWOOD, CO—Mail-Well announced recently that it has refinanced its senior secured bank credit facility. The new facility provides up to $300 million of revolving availability. The company applied a portion of that availability to satisfy its obligations under the previous facility, including the repayment of its term loans. Bank of America serves as administrative agent for the new facility.
French Paper Adds Three Presses
LYON, FRANCE—Holding Delaroche, which owns French regional newspaper Progrès de Lyon, announced it was acquiring three gapless Heidelberg Mainstream presses. Two presses will be installed in the city of Chassieu and another is ticketed for Saint-Etienne. Le Progrès has a circulation of 300,000 copies in the Rhône-Alpes region of France.
Linco Adds Saddle Stitcher
LONG ISLAND CITY, NY—Linco Printing has installed a Muller Martini Bravo-T saddle stitching system. The machine is rated at 11,000 cycles per hour, with PLC controls that facilitate quick makereadies.
Proforma, Print Network Deal
MARINA, CA—Proforma PrintNet, a supplier of business documents, promotional products and graphic communications, announced it has merged with Print Network. Santa Clara-based Print Network produces high-end marketing collateral for the technology industry. The merger creates a more fully integrated organization with expanded sales coverage and services, including in-house graphic design and a document distribution center.
Integrity Acquires Typehouse
WINDSOR, CT—Integrity Graphics, a $12 million printer, announced it has acquired the assets of The Typehouse Group, based in Wallingford, CT. The Typehouse Group will now be called e-Integrity and will act as the e-business solutions branch of the company. The Typehouse Group specializes in offerings such as electronic solutions, electronic publishing and prepress.
Watchtower Adds New Stitcher
BROOKLYN, NY—The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York has installed a Muller Martini Bravo-S saddle stitching system. It is the legal organization in use by the Jehovah's Witnesses.
K/P Consolidates Management
SAN RAMON, CA—K/P Corp. is consolidating management of its Silicon Valley operations with its Northern California Mail & Fulfillment Division. The move streamlines the company's management structure, maximizes equipment usage and reduces overall expenses. Two years ago, K/P made a similar move by merging its Sacramento and San Leandro (CA) facilities to create the California Mail & Fulfillment Division.
