Motheral Printing Chairman Dies
FORTH WORTH, TX—Carl Motheral, 76, chairman of Motheral Printing, died of a heart attack in January. Motheral was part of the second generation to run the family-owned printing business that his father and mother, Fitzhugh and Ella Motheral, started in 1934. He joined what was then a small family business in 1950. Mr. Motheral ran the business along with his brothers Foist and Wesley, and retained the title of chairman when he retired four years ago. His son, Jim, succeeded him as president.
Tom Basore to Retire From WOA
ALEXANDRIA, VA—Thomas "Tom" Basore, executive director of the Web Offset Association (WOA) and the Web Printing Association for Open Web & Coldset Printers (WPA), both special industry groups of the Printing Industries of America, has announced his intention to retire. Basore's background covers more than 43 years in the graphic arts industry. He has held the position of executive director since January 1988. He will end his career on May 30. Basore and his newly wedded wife, Irene, will retire to Amelia Island, FL.
K/P Moves Fulfillment Center
SAN RAMON, CA—K/P Corp. has moved its Sacramento fulfillment and direct mail business out of three adjacent buildings into one 100,000-square-foot building in West Sacramento, CA. The new location doubles the space of its information technology and data processing center, enabling K/P to meet the increased demand for more complex variable imaging projects. At the same time, it has expanded its fulfillment center with state-of-the-art fulfillment racking systems, twice the square footage and enhanced security systems to protect customer information and materials.
EFI to Acquire Printcafe
FOSTER CITY, CA—Electronics For Imaging (EFI) will acquire Printcafe Software. With the convergence of traditional and digital printing, the combination of EFI's imaging and workflow solutions with Printcafe's enterprise management software will help to accelerate the adoption of digital printing management throughout the process from procurement to production, according to the company. The merger calls for EFI to pay $2.60 per share for each outstanding Printcafe share. EFI beat out Creo who retracted a previous offer.
IWCO Appoints VP of Operations
CHANHASSEN, MN—The Instant Web Companies (IWCO) has appointed Jim Leone to vice president of operations. Leone joined IWCO in May 2002 as vice president of mail operations. Leone's extensive direct mail experience includes postal and parcel logistics, information systems, supply chain management, transportation and marketing.

BALTIMORE—Vertis has recently upgraded its quality management standard to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2000 at three of its direct marketing services facilities in North Brunswick, NJ; Chalfont, PA; and Bristol, PA.
Graphic Press Hires Execs
LOS ANGELES—Peter Stein has been hired as executive vice president of sales at Graphic Press. He brings 25 years of sales and management experience in the printing industry. Under this new and expanded sales management structure, Dirk Eldredge has been appointed vice president of business development. Sergio Ramos has been promoted to vice president of sales, Southern California. In addition, Lou Butera recently joined the company as vice president of sales for Northern California. Alan Grossberg is opening a Northwestern sales office in Seattle. Rick Manning is covering the Chicago marketplace and Jazen Brown now heads the company's diversity initiative program.
Bowne Financial Names Execs
NEW YORK—Bowne & Co. has appointed Reed R. Smith, 45, as president of Bowne's financial print unit and a senior vice president of the parent company. Smith has been president of Bowne Financial Print's Eastern region since 2000. His previous day-to-day responsibilities are being assumed by Bowne International President William P. Penders, 41, as part of the consolidation of the Eastern region with Bowne International. Matteo W. LaMuraglia, 50, currently senior vice president and sales director of financial print's Eastern region, will assume that title for the entire business unit.
Long-time Printer Dies
RIPON, WI—Doug Lyke, 72, president and owner of the $40 million Ripon Community Printers, died recently of respiratory failure related to lung cancer. In addition, he was publisher of the Ripon Commonwealth Press and remained active as a columnist and editorial writer for the newspaper. Lyke was also known throughout the community for his extensive volunteer work. He is survived by his wife Audrey and their four children.
Changes for Ennis Board
DESOTO, TX—Ewell Tankersley has resigned from Ennis Business Forms' board of directors due to health reasons and Harve Cathey, secretary and treasurer, has been appointed to the additional position of vice president of finance and CFO. Tankersley joined the board in 1988. The board of directors has elected Ronald Graham, vice president of administration, to fill the remainder of Tankersley's term, which expires in June. Cathey had previously served as CFO from 1983 to 1996.
New President at Acorn Press
LANCASTER, PA—Acorn Press has announced the promotion of Scott Reighard to president and COO. He succeeds founder Donald Roseman Jr., who has assumed the title of chairman of the board. Reighard served as Acorn's vice president of operations since 1994.
