W+D to Premier Two Inkjet Solutions for Envelope Printing, Inserting at PRINT 13
OVERLAND PARK, KS—August 9, 2013—Direct mail solutions provider W+D, which marks its 100th anniversary this year, will world premier two new inkjet innovations for envelope overprinting and inserting in booth 3922 at PRINT 13. Highlighting the W+D exhibit will be the new W+D 234dL, the world’s fastest industrial digital four-color inkjet envelope overprint press, and the new W+D BB700 S2 with TIprint 4dL, which prints on the front and back seal flap of blank unfilled flat envelope before inserting materials into the envelope.
Making the envelope a more powerful direct mail solution is W+D’s theme for PRINT 13, according to Andrew Schipke, vice president of sales and marketing at W+D North America. “We invite printers, mailers and envelope converters of all sizes to come see W+D’s newest solutions for direct mail envelope printing, inserting which will have no equal in terms of print quality,” he said.
W+D 234dL—The world’s fastest four-color envelope overprint press has already been awarded a MUST SEE 'EM for the PRINT 13 show. The W+D 234 dL is world’s fastest true industrial-grade, four-color DOD inkjet envelope overprint press that offers offset competitive print quality. The versatile 234 d L prints a wide range of envelopes, as well as common business applications including letterheads, stationary, business cards, postcards and tags making it a highly versatile press for short-run, high-quality work. The 234 dL operates at speeds of up to 30,000 #10 envelopes per hour in its high resolution mode with the lowest inkjet print cost per unit.
W+D’s 234 dL has an integrated RIP that allows static and variable imaging at full production speeds and it supports industry standard file formats. It handles products from 3.5x4.5˝ to 10x13˝ and with a thickness range from 16-lb. to 90-lb. paper and also prints on Tyvek. The 234dL features a 8.66˝ width inkjet print head.
The 234 d reduces waste and runs an average one percent total waste for four-color work. Comparable four-color offset average is six percent in the envelope market. It offers extremely fast set-up time of three to five minutes for standard envelope sizes (#9, #10, 5x7) eight to 10 minutes for larger sizes. Average set up time for four-color offset overprint is 45 minutes in the envelope market.
The industrial production grade 234 dL is capable of three-shift operation six days a week. It features an internal diagnostic that can be remotely monitored by W+D or owner maintenance department through a secure internet connection.
W+D BB700 S2 with TIprint 4dL—Best in class print quality and lowest cost per unit printed. W+D’s new direct mail inserter is the fully servo driven modular W+D BB700 S2 equipped with print 1st DOD inkjet printing that allows the highest quality printing of an unfilled flat envelope, as well as printing of the front of the envelope and back seal flap in a single pass without turning the envelope. The BB700 S2 operates at speeds of up to 16,000 envelopes/hour.
Print 1st inkjet printing:
Unique to this class of inserters the BB700 S2 prints a blank unfilled flat envelope before inserting materials into the envelope. Printing on a flat unfilled envelope provides high-speed printing at the highest and most consistent print quality. Quality is further enhanced because the variations (inserted paper, air entrapment and sealing issues) that occur in the inserting process are not present during printing. Printing flat envelopes also enables the BB700S2 to print on the front and back side of a 6x9” envelope with open seal flap in a single pass without having to turn the envelope or add additional inkjet printing capabilities.
Offset competitive quality can be printed on standard 24lb white wove envelope stock with the BB700 S2 inkjet printer. This is a function of the high-speed vacuum transport belt that moves the substrate through the machine and positions it as close to the inkjet print heads as possible. The formulation of Hi-Def water base inkjet inks produce a vivid and wide color gamut on standard envelope paper. Quality improves on papers optimized for inkjet and exceed offset in many print categories.
The BB700 2S integrated RIP allows static or variable printing on press at full production speeds. This press is compatible with industry standard file formats.
The BB7002S uses an 8.66” width inkjet print head. An Impika E1000XL DOD inkjet engine with robust Kyocera KJ4 inkjet head combined with Hi-Def water based inkjet inks yield the lowest cost per imaged unit for any current generation DOD inkjet system.
Independent offline print versatility: The BB700 S2 inkjet print modules can be easily and quickly decoupled from the BB700 inserter module and used offline as a standalone envelope overprint press. A slide up delivery table is attached and allows for additional flexibility and utilization of the inkjet printer for work that may not require inserting.
W+D OC4 on-edge conveyor
W+D will also be demonstrating its newly released OC4 on-edge conveyor, which can be quickly changed over to process and stack “on-edge” almost any product size including #10, 6x9, 9x12 and even 10x13 envelopes. This system will also have a host of other features including our standard rotary feeders, a left hand feeder, and even our file based processing and reporting package.
Technology partners in the W+D booth
Ironsides Technology, a software development and integration firm that provides workflow automation and enterprise wide integrity tracking solutions will be demonstrating its Automatic Production Tracking (APT) technology for use on its mail inserting and production systems in the W+D both and as part of the BB700 2S machine demonstrations. APT is a scalable and open architecture software solution that is designed to optimize productivity and document integrity for print and mail operations of all sizes that W+D has recently signed an agreement to resell products from Ironsides Technology.
Lake Image Systems' camera imaging and scanning technology will also be demonstrated on the running W+D BB700 S2 inserter during PRINT 13.
