Walsworth Publishing to Help 75 Students Attend Journalism Convention
KANSAS CITY, MO—Oct. 4, 2012—As part of the company’s year-long 75th anniversary celebration and its commitment to the future of scholastic journalism, Walsworth Publishing announced that it will be sponsoring 75 scholarships for local students to attend the upcoming JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention in San Antonio, Nov. 15-18, 2012.
Walsworth will be paying the registration fees for the 75 scholarship recipients, who will be from the San Antonio area and will chosen by the JEA/NSPA convention’s local organizing committee.
In addition to having their registration fees paid, the students will receive a pizza party and T-shirts at the convention. The group will also be recognized at the convention’s opening night keynote address on Nov. 15.
“Walsworth is honored to provide this opportunity for 75 high school journalism students. The JEA/NSPA convention is a wonderful learning experience and a chance for these students to further pursue their love of journalism and yearbooks,” said Don Walsworth, Walsworth Publishing’s president. “It all tied in perfectly with our 75th anniversary celebration.”
San Antonio-area students can apply for the scholarships by filling out the application form located on page 12 of the convention registration book, which can be downloaded from the NSPA website at studentpress.org/nspa. In addition, applicants must provide a one-page typed letter explaining why they want to attend the convention and a letter of recommendation from a school media adviser. Applications must be received no later than Oct. 10.
In the weeks prior to and following the convention, Walsworth will be documenting the convention experience of the 75 scholarship winners on its YouTube page, Facebook page and Yearbooks Blog.
