Overall print volumes for wide-format production graphics are expected to grow upwards of 13 percent per annum over the next three to five years. Clients/end-users are demanding higher levels of service from PSPs, which in turn drives steady progress in UV technology. The trend for fast production and higher quality output continues. UV inkjet remains one of the largest and fastest growing segments in the wide-format market, primarily due to the benefits that this technology offers, including fast drying, excellent image durability, low running costs and the ability to print onto a wide range of substrates and produce a wide range of applications. That, in combination with LED technology, means PSPs enjoy the benefits of a wider applications scope, the ability to print on heat-sensitive media, higher productivity and less power consumption.
In relation to application trends, we see décor and event (creating a mood or theme) applications continuing to grow. Décor is a big opportunity for PSPs. Textile and fabrics have many benefits such as being environmentally friendly, easier to ship, easier to install and they have a more sophisticated appearance. High-end automotive showrooms have moved away from vinyl to fabric because it looks upscale. UV inkjet offers the capability for short-runs and print-on-demand opportunities.
Floor graphics have taken off in the last 10 years, as well as windows and walls. With UV inkjet, PSPs can customize graphics and differentiate imagery to be more region-specific. UV technology is really making the applications practical and on demand.
From an end user’s viewpoint, wide-format print buyers are asking for more sustainable products, which is driving growth in digitally printed fabric, rigid substrates and non-PVC based media such as Duratex EcoDisplay Board and Duratex EcoBanner.
