Wisconsin Governor Calls Quad/Graphics Pewaukee Facility a 'Great Asset' to State
PEWAUKEE, Wis. — June 28, 2016 — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker dropped by Quad/Graphics' direct mail headquarters Monday for an in-depth tour of the facility and to see how it has become one of the Midwest's leading digital print supercenters. The event drew local television news crews and print reporters who joined with Quad's employees to inspect the plant’s new HP T410 digital inkjet web press.
As the facility's centerpiece, the HP T410 press can print on both sides of a 42˝ web — the entire web width is variable and every page can be personalized to an individual recipient. In a unique inline configuration, one or two preprinted rolls can be merged into the 42˝ wide, fully personalized roll on the T410.
"The focus of the supercenter is to create highly personalized direct marketing materials in sophisticated formats that deliver results for our clients," said Tom Frankowski, Quad/Graphics' COO, as he and the governor stood next to the recently installed T410. "This press will be a first-of-its-kind in the direct marketing industry because of its inline custom finishing capabilities, which go live in September. When complete, we will be able to perform diecutting and scratch-offs, and apply special coatings, among other capabilities, right inline. We will also be able to create one-to-one personalized mail pieces cost effectively on a mass scale, something never before possible."
According to Frankowski, Quad/Graphics invested almost $20 million in the supercenter and its new T410. "The investment shows we are committed to our clients and the direct marketing industry, providing the latest and greatest capabilities to deliver the right message to the right person at the right time."
Gov. Walker and Pewaukee Press Operator Steve Lentz started up a short press run on the HP T410 to print a special cover of VIEWS, a publication traditionally earmarked for Quad/Graphics' clients but mocked up for this occasion to celebrate the governor’s visit.
During his visit, Gov. Walker also stressed the impact that Quad/Graphics has had and will have in Wisconsin. "We’re excited that Quad is putting people to work,” he relayed. "There are now more people working in the state of Wisconsin than have ever been working before in our history and its due in no small part to great companies like Quad/Graphics."
For the Pewaukee visit, Walker wore a Quad/Blues uniform shirt that he received on a visit to the company's Sussex plant in 2012. "I feel part of the team and we’re proud you are part of our great team here in the state of Wisconsin ... Quad/Graphics is a great asset to our state, and we can’t wait to see all they accomplish as we continue to move Wisconsin forward," Walker said.
According to Claire Ho, Quad/Graphics' director of corporate communications, the company has created more than 2,000 jobs in Wisconsin in the last five years, and is continuing to hire — looking to fill approximately 500 job positions among its network of 14 Wisconsin locations. The majority of these positions are production positions, such as equipment operators, fork truck drivers, electricians, etc. The company is also hiring in customer service, employee services, finance, legal and transportation services. It offers an accelerated career training program for individuals hired into its production areas.
