Worker Dies After Getting Crushed by Pile of Paper
WEST SADSBURY, PA—A Quad/Graphics employee died March 20 after getting crushed by a load of paper inside a clogged baler at the Atglen facility here, the Daily Local News reported.
The victim, Raymond Bermudez, was reportedly attempting to clear a clogged baler in the recycling operations area. When the obstruction was removed, it caused a mound of incoming paper to fall on top of the 44-year-old man.
According to the newspaper, firefighters worked to remove the pile of books from atop the victim and were able to free him via an access door in the baler. Bermudez was taken to Brandywine Hospital while in cardiac arrest, and was later pronounced dead.
Police were still investigating the accident at press time. The probable cause of death is either suffocation or internal injuries resulting from being crushed by the paper.
