Yearbook Printer Lifetouch Services to Lay Off 244 Employees from Its Kansas City, MO, Location
KANSAS CITY, MO—July 10, 2014—Lifetouch Services, a subsidiary of Lifetouch Inc., and a producer of yearbooks and other printed products based here, announced it will lay off 244 employees from this location. The company plans to move its production operation to a plant in Loves Park, IL. The layoffs will begin at the end of August, reported the Kansas City Business Journal.
"We're moving the production of the yearbooks to Illinois because it is a more efficient way for us to deal with our operations," corporate vice president Kelvin Miller said to the Journal. "It's simply economic efficiencies. Lifetouch is a 100 percent employee-owned company, and because of that, we take very seriously our stewardship of resources and the outcomes for the individual shareholders of the company."
According to the newspaper, full-time employees have been offered opportunities to transfer to Illinois, and about 25 employees will continue to work in the Kansas City facility to provide customer service and IT support.
