In 2016, mailing list gaffes simply shouldn’t happen. But one might have cost the University of Michigan a prized football recruit.

Bill Duerr, the president of Hatteras, in Tinton Falls, N.J., logged his first hours with the company while scraping paint at 14 years old. Now, at the spry age of 32, Duerr is definitely an old soul, proud of his firm’s reputation for providing quality work, on time and as promised. That reputation was forged through trust and the hard work of Hatteras’ 300-employee team (and it is a team effort, as the company shirts will attest).

Publishers Press, a 150-plus-year-old printer, is closing down its plant in Shepherdsville, Ky., within the next year, transitioning all work and employees to its Lebanon Junction facility by Jan. 1, 2017, WDRB-TV reported. This move will, among other things, enable the company to invest in new equipment.

The trend toward cross-training needs to continue not only at the more highly-evolved facilities, but everywhere.

Poor customer service is inexcusable, even when the customer is being a bit unreasonable. The underlying problem could be complacency.
