BISMARCK, ND—Image Printing, based here, and Knight Printing of Fargo, ND, have combined their workforce and technology, according to The Bismarck Tribune. The move also sees the closing of Richtman's Printing office. Knight Printing had acquired Richtman's Printing on March 1; about 80 percent of its employees will be absorbed into Image Printing.

CHICAGO—The largest M&A transaction in the history of the printing industry, in the midst of the worst financial climate this country has seen in decades, could make one company a towering behemoth among modest-sized competitors.
CHICAGO—Equity partners Rider Dickerson and Service Communications + Solutions (SCS) announced the asset purchase of large-format printer Sleepeck Printing. The companies also hired several key Sleepeck employees. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Rider and SCS will benefit from the addition of Sleepeck's large-format and UV sheetfed printing capabilities and will be able to expand their presense in the point-of-purchase (POP) marketplace, according to Rider President Bill Barta.
STAMFORD, CT—Cenveo has inked a definitive merger agreement to acquire all of the outstanding common shares of Nashua Corp. in a cash and stock deal valued at roughly $44 million. Nashua, a labels and specialty paper producer, posted sales of $265 million in 2008. The deal allows Cenveo to strengthen its position in the pharmaceutical and shelf label market and will expand upon Nashua's position in the point-of-sale and wide-format printing markets.
MONTREAL—Quebecor World signed a multi-year agreement to print Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel, a growing monthly magazine with a print run exceeding 750,000 copies published by Newsweek Budget Travel. The pact also allows for the printing of two annual "Girlfriend Getaways" special issues. The Budget Travel volume is new business to Quebecor World, which has printed the West Coast editions of Newsweek's flagship title for 15 years.
The Southern California printing scene is taking a big hit with the loss of two well-known names in the industry. Anderson Lithograph of Los Angeles, one of the most prominent printers in Southern California, has been consolidated into ColorGraphics by its parent company, Cenveo Inc. In a letter to customers, Anderson Litho President Mark Tennant said the move is in response to the economic downturn.

MONTREAL—Quebecor World has signed a multi-year contract valued at approximately $100 million with Boardroom Inc., to provide the printing and distribution of millions of newsletters, books and special reports. The agreement with the Stamford, CT-based Boardroom represents a more than six-fold increase in Quebecor World business volume with the company.
COHOES, NY—Mohawk Fine Papers has purchased the premium uncoated writing, text and cover brands from SMART Papers of Hamilton, OH. The purchase includes the Carnival, Passport, Genesis, Synergy, Pegasus, Magna Carta, Solutions, Feltweave, Nekoosa, Proterra, Skytone, and SMART Brights brands, and will reportedly make Mohawk the largest supplier of premium papers in North America.
Vision Graphics, Inc. announced today that it has signed a letter of intent to acquire Keyline Graphics,Inc. located in Denver, Colorado. The transaction is expected to be completed within 30 days and the present management team led by Del Baker will remain with the company following its completion. Other terms were not disclosed.
