Digital Printing-Wide Format - Flatbed
No one predicted that wide-format inkjet would open a new market for printers for signage, vehicle wraps, building wraps, back drops, and more. Go back and look. The first wide-format printers were introduced as proofers for color printing. As Benny Landa has said: anything that can go digital will go digital. That is why the growth markets are packaging and new media — and by media I mean new substrates.

Randy Paar, manager, marketing – Display Graphics for Canon Solutions America, shows how cutouts are produced.
The App Room, featuring Randy Paar, manager, marketing - Display Graphics for Canon Solutions America, will show a range of high-margin applications that can be produced with Canon Solutions Americas’ flatbed printers, cutters, and software. The next application, plaques and awards, shows the variety of different designs that can be produced from scratch or by using store bought components, and then printed on an Océ Arizona printer and the Océ ProCut digital finishing system.

For the next application, Paar shows us how to construct a display rack manufactured from inexpensive light-weight corrugate. The display rack was printed using an Océ Arizona UV printer on a honeycomb board, with vinyl finishing strip added to the stand base. The Océ ProCut digital finishing system was also used.

Paar takes a look at another exciting application, stained glass. This example was produced using two different printing processes — printed second surface on the back of the polycarbonate for the glass colors, and then printing first surface with the raised letters to give a tactile feel of actual leading. Given the wide range of substrates that can be used on the Océ Arizona printer, a finishing device, such as the Océ ProCut, is ideal for cutting all of those substrates.

In this video, Paar shows us how a day/night backlit image is created. Traditionally, graphics designed for displays have been printed either for daytime or nighttime (backlit) viewing, but not both. Recent advances allow the printing of images that look gorgeous whether the light is coming in from the front or behind. The printer used to create the day/night backlit image was the Océ Arizona 6170 XTS. The white ink allows the capability to print on clear materials and use that as a diffuser.
