This year's SGIA Product of the Year competition was held at the 2014 Expo in Las Vegas, October 22-24. The contest showcased the best printers, technologies and consumables from the specialty imaging community. "Whether they were a seasoned company or an industry newcomer, each and every entry came to win," said Ray Weiss, SGIA’s digital imaging specialist.

Altogether, the competition compared 139 entries from 68 companies in 25 different categories. The first EFI VUTEk GS5500LXr Pro LED inkjet printer in the United States has been installed at Primary Color in El Segundo, CA. At the heart of the new five-meter printer is UltraDrop Technology, EFI’s latest-generation imaging platform. "We decided to acquire this printer because of the expanded color gamut we gained using the printer’s LED curing platform and the new, seven-picoLiter UltraDrop printheads," said Dan Hirt, Primary Color’s president.
