Spiel Associates demonstrated a wide range of bindery and finishing equipment at an open house it hosted at its Long Island City, NY, facility. On display was a full line of Graphic Whizard creasers, UV Coaters, the new SCC slitter, cutter, creaser, and folders.

J.S. McCarthy Printers of Augusta, ME, is the first U.S. printer to install a Stahl KH-82 6KTLP folder with pallet-fed PFX feeder and Twinstacker TSH-70 delivery from Heidelberg. The new unit has so far saved J.S. McCarthy nearly 4,500 hours per year in folding production time, and the company is moving a large portion of its commercial signature work to the new machine.

Gilded edges have been a staple of wedding invitations for years. More recently, I’ve noticed the occasional business card with color on the edge. But now...the trend is unmistakable.

This year at PRINT 13, Braintree Printing owner Jim Corliss and his colleagues were in the market for a newer, faster folding unit. The company purchased a MBO folding machine from Pasquariello Graphics of North.

This week, Essex, CT-based Structural Graphics highlights a cost-effective direct mail campaign used by Mazda to introduce its new CX-5 vehicle and to drive consumers to its social media sites.

The Rohrer Corp. in Wadsworth, OH, has purchased two Foildex Cold Foil and Filmdex UV Cast and Cure systems from Diversified Graphic Machinery. The sale and purchase was announced jointly from the DGM exhibit at PRINT 13 by Michael DeBard, president of Diversified Graphic Machinery, and Scot Adkins, president and CEO of Rohrer Corp.

The pundits who have proclaimed PRINT 13 a great success are not exaggerating. Most exhibitor booths were busy, busy, busy. There was an energy present that had been sorely missing from earlier GRAPH EXPO shows.

At PRINT 13, Brandtjen & Kluge will be co-exhibiting in the Colter & Peterson booth, and will be promoting the "Cartons in Minutes" digital production line with strategic partner LasX. Kluge will also have technical experts on hand to address any folding and gluing, foil stamping, and diecutting applications.

MBO America will introduce the MBO M80 Flexible Folding System with modular add-on capabilities at PRINT 13 in Chicago. The M80 comes with modular design technology and can be reconfigured after purchase with the capability to add or interchange certain components according to a customer's specific needs.

At PRINT 13, Standard Finishing Systems, together with partners Horizon and Hunkeler, will unveil the Smart Binding System, a new lean book manufacturing process that solves many of the challenges inherent in short-run, roll-fed and cut-sheet book production.
