New Diecutter a Plus for Northern Ohio CLEVELAND—After spending upward of $10,000 a month to outsource its diecutting work, Northern Ohio Printing decided to pull those jobs back in-house with the acquisition of a KAMA TS 74-60HF diecutter with foil stamping and embossing features. Western States Nabs New Cutter BUTLER, WI—Western States Envelope & Label installed a new Polar 155 XT in its cutting department here, replacing an older model. Since installing the paper cutter a few months ago, the company has experienced less downtime and faster turnaround. These results are important to the success of this 24 hour-a-day plant, which produces more than seven million envelopes each day. Because of these results, Western States’ Ohio division decided to increase its capacity by purchasing a new Polar 155 XT, as well. HAVING A print engine isn’t an absolute prerequisite for offering digital printing services, but it definitely helps. Shops that install a press do, however, find that having some level of in-house digital finishing capabilities—in-, near- or off-line—is required to be competitive in meeting the short run, quick-turnaround demands of this market. As a result, digital printing operations are faced with figuring out where to draw the line between the efficiency of in-line finishing options versus the flexibility of off-line systems.
