HP carefully selected a group of 23 same-sized printers from the region to bring in for its "Print Your Future" color inkjet web press event. The two-day excursion, held at the Burlington (MA) Marriott and the headquarters of host printer DS Graphics in Lowell, MA, came just two weeks before Christmas. That HP was still able to round up a captive audience at a time when printing companies and executives are preoccupied with end-of-year housekeeping speaks to the due diligence it performed in culling the invite list.

xpedx has begun exclusive distribution of the new Appleton Coated Utopia Inkjet Gloss paper in commercial printing applications. Bulkley Dunton, xpedx’s paper brokerage business, is the exclusive distributor for publishing applications.
The winning entries to Appleton Coated’s U360 Competition for 2012 have been announced. “U360 celebrates design, content and printing excellence, and all that paper makes possible. The winning selections recognize the all-around, effective, creative role that print communication plays in the marketing mix,” says Ferkó X. Goldinger, advertising and promotion manager.
Nearly two-thirds of the 150 attendees at the 2012 Digital Book Printing Forum were publishers and printers. According to Gilles Biscos, president of INTERQUEST, “Shorter print runs, better inventory management, and the growing popularity of eBooks are changing the supply chain for printed books.”
HP will introduce 10 digital printing systems at drupa that offer print service providers greater versatility, productivity and quality, including the first 29" HP Indigo press and higher-speed HP Inkjet Web Presses. The HP Indigo 10000 Digital Press is a 29.5x20.9" sheetfed press that prints at speeds of 3,450 sheets per hour in full color, and up to 4,600 sheets per hour in EPM.
Bethlam Forsa, executive vice president, content development and publishing operations at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, will kick off the 2012 Digital Book Printing Forum with the opening keynote address. Following that address, INTERQUEST will present key results from recent research it has conducted in digital book printing sector.
