STAMFORD, CT—In September 2013, Cenveo Inc. acquired certain assets of National Envelope through the bankruptcy process. As part of the consideration for the acquisition, Cenveo issued approximately 2.1 million shares to the debt holders of National Envelope. Under the terms of the purchase agreement, the debt holders were restricted from selling the Cenveo shares for a period of six months from the date of the acquisition.
Expansion plans for Cenveo's St. Louis operations are expected to be completed this month. The company plans to invest $4 million, adding new jobs, equipment, and an additional 44,000 square feet to the already 220,000-square-foot facility.

The company believes that the recent increased trading activity and volatility in its stock is largely related to the expiration of the six-month restriction period.
For printers that already offer layout and design services, an unexpected revenue source (or at least a way to retain customer loyalty) may be digital media itself, in the form of interactive apps for tablets and smartphones. Unlike Websites, apps can be created with the same tools used to produce printed pages. With a modest software investment, plus incremental training of existing staff, printers can offer their clients supplemental interactive collateral—to complement their printed products.

The Southern California printing scene is taking a big hit with the loss of two well-known names in the industry. Anderson Lithograph of Los Angeles, one of the most prominent printers in Southern California, has been consolidated into ColorGraphics by its parent company, Cenveo Inc. In a letter to customers, Anderson Litho President Mark Tennant said the move is in response to the economic downturn.
