Consolidated Graphics
DUSSELDORF, GERMANY—Printing industry M&A specialist Consolidated Graphics (CGX), which boasts one of the largest integrated digital printing footprints in North America, has purchased 10 HP Indigo 10000 digital presses.
Consolidated Graphics’ revenue for the quarter totaled $250.6 million, a $7.6 million decrease (2.9 percent) compared to the prior-year quarter. The decline was due to a 4.8 percent decrease in same-store sales, partially offset by sales growth related to acquisitions and an increase in election-related business.
After operating out of three sites for many years, Nies/Artcraft will consolidate two of its current facilities into a single, new location. By having a completely open floor plan, the printer’s production management team has been able to create a layout specific to its work flow needs.
HP and Consolidated Graphics (CGX) officials have disclosed the purchase agreement of 10 HP Indigo 10000 digital presses at the drupa tradeshow in Düsseldorf, Germany. CGX will begin installing the presses at locations throughout its 70-company network when the HP Indigo 10000 becomes commercially available in early 2013.
HOUSTON—Consolidated Graphics (CGX) announced the formation of a new joint venture with Asian printer Yamagata Corp. The investment comes as CGX experiences an increased focus on international growth to service its multinational corporation customer base.
The new entity, CGX Yamagata Japan GK, offers one of the most advanced digital printing facilities in Asia and is integrated with Consolidated Graphics’ digital production infrastructure. Consolidated Graphics also acquired certain assets of Yamagata America to establish an International Project Management Office in San Diego, CA.
The new service, called Publish, provides a cost-effective solution for smaller volume projects that require rich production values. It enables designers to complete their projects up to 75 percent faster using Blurb’s custom proofing tools, automated preflight checks, and the ability to order via credit card from within the interface.
Leading executives from Saatchi & Saatchi X, FedEx, and Opus Bank, as well as a Pro Football Hall of Fame Quarterback, are all part of the speakers lineup for Consolidated Graphics’ third-annual emerge conference. An audience of nearly 1,000 executives representing leading brands across the country will be on hand.
Nearly two-thirds of the 150 attendees at the 2012 Digital Book Printing Forum were publishers and printers. According to Gilles Biscos, president of INTERQUEST, “Shorter print runs, better inventory management, and the growing popularity of eBooks are changing the supply chain for printed books.”
