Safeguard, a member of Deluxe Corp., has completed its acquisition of Prime Business Solutions, a supplier of printing, promotional items and office supplies nationwide based in Akron, OH. Terms of the acquisition, which was completed on November 6, were not announced.

Deluxe Corp. has released its financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2013. Revenue of $398.1 million was at the higher end of the range in the prior outlook and adjusted diluted EPS exceeded the high end of the range in the prior outlook. The strong earnings performance was driven primarily by stronger performance in Financial Services.

NEW ALBANY, IN—A printing facility here owned by Shoreview, MN-based Deluxe Corp. will be shutting its doors by the end of the year, leaving about 30 workers out of jobs, according to Business First. Work done here will be transferred to a new facility recently opened in Chicago.
A printing plant in New Albany (IN), owned by Shoreview, MN-based Deluxe Corp., will close by the end of the year, and about 30 workers are being laid off in the process.
Printing done at the New Albany plant is being moved to a new facility that the company recently opened in Chicago, according to Terri Shapiro, executive director of brand and media relations at Deluxe. She said many of the workers being laid off will be offered severance.

Deluxe Corp. is so set on revamping its stodgy image as a check maker that it’s launching a major ad blitz to show all small businesses that it is ready to serve them. The goal is to replace Deluxe’s stale image as the purveyor of paper checks with the fresh impression that it’s a solution genie for small businesses needing forms, logo and graphic designs, digital printing, software or Web and marketing services.
“We had an outstanding second quarter following an outstanding first quarter,” said Lee Schram, CEO of Deluxe. Revenue for the quarter was $371.0 million, compared to $346.3 million for the second quarter of 2011. Operating income totaled $73.6 million, compared to $64.0 million in the second quarter of 2011
Deluxe Corp. reported revenue of $378.0 million in the first quarter of 2012, an 8.1 percent increase from $349.8 million for the previous year’s first quarter, and net income of $44.1 million, up 35.3 percent from $32.6 million.
